<strong>Command</strong>s<br />

Use this command to define a password <strong>for</strong> a level and use <strong>the</strong> privilege level<br />

(CONFIGURATION mode) command to control access to command modes.<br />

Passwords must meet <strong>the</strong> following criteria:<br />

• Start with a letter, not a number.<br />

• Passwords can have a regular expression as <strong>the</strong> password. To create a password with a<br />

regular expression in it, you must use CNTL + v prior to entering regular expression. For<br />

example, to create <strong>the</strong> password abcd]e, you type abcd CNTL v ]e and when <strong>the</strong><br />

password is created, you do not use <strong>the</strong> CNTL + v key combination and enter abcd]e.<br />

login au<strong>the</strong>ntication<br />

c e s Enable <strong>the</strong> AAA login au<strong>the</strong>ntication configured on <strong>the</strong> switch terminal lines.<br />

Syntax login au<strong>the</strong>ntication {method-list-name | default}<br />

Parameters<br />

To use <strong>the</strong> local user database <strong>for</strong> login au<strong>the</strong>ntication, enter no login au<strong>the</strong>ntication.<br />

Defaults No au<strong>the</strong>ntication is per<strong>for</strong>med on <strong>the</strong> console lines, and local au<strong>the</strong>ntication is per<strong>for</strong>med on<br />

<strong>the</strong> virtual terminal and auxiliary lines.<br />

If you specify an encrypted password and <strong>the</strong>n enter a clear text password, you cannot access<br />

<strong>the</strong> EXEC privilege mode. When a password is encrypted, you cannot decipher it.<br />

Note: The question mark (?) and <strong>the</strong> tilde (~) are not supported characters.<br />

show running-config View <strong>the</strong> current configuration.<br />

in <strong>the</strong> aaa au<strong>the</strong>ntication login command, is applied to <strong>the</strong> terminal line.<br />
