This is a renewal application for taxicab service for the City of Glendale based 6
0n the public
convenience that has been previously established by the City.
Previously the Transportation and Parking Commission established the Need and Necessity for 82
operating taxicab permits in the City of,Glendale.
Presently there are 81 actual permits issued as follows: Checker Cab ~ 8, Tri*City Yellow Cab - 17,
City Cab - 15, Peoples Taxi - 29 and Bell Cab - 12. G&S Transit Management, dba City Cab, is
asking to be reissu ~d 15 permits for th is renewal period.
City Cab Company has maintained an on time service ratio of 88% (service within 15 minutes) with
111,494 orders served during 200B. For the first six months of 2009 the on-time performance has
improved to 91% with 46,960 orders served.
Burbank Bob Hope Airport taxicab business is down more than 20%. Regular taxi business is down
19.93% in City of Glendale (first six months of 2009 compared to first six months of 2008) and
more than 20% in Burbank and Pa sadena, also in City of Los Angeles. Opening of "Ame ricana~
department stores and residential complex did not generate additional business for taxicabs as
expected. G&S Transit Management has 15 taxicabs exclusively lice nsed in City of Glendale.
The transportatlon needs of the Glendale community are being met in an outstanding manner by
the current fleet of taxis. All "special needs· passengers are being serviced by the existing fleet. The
hotels, hospitals and local businesses are being serviced in a very timely and professional manner.
The recent addition of -taxi sta nds· during the past year has enabled the taxis to stage themselves
through out the community thus providing timely service while not adding to the congestion on the
streets or pollution in the area.
In conclusion, since the current taxis are keeping the transportation needs of Glendale serviced on
time; in clean vehicles and with professional drivers, there is not a need to increase the operating
fleet in Glendale. An increase in the operating fleet would only cause the drivers to suffer a
substantial reduction in their incomes without improving the already superior service the City of
Glendale is experiencing.
