pregnancy related disability during any period you are on<br />

pregnancy leave <strong>of</strong> absence to which you are entitled under<br />

applicable Provincial statues or mutually agreed to by you<br />

and the <strong>City</strong> (HSR);<br />

alcoholism, drug addiction or any mental condition<br />

connected therewith, unless the insured person is under<br />

active treatment in, or certified as being actively supervised<br />

by a rehabilitation centre or Provincially designated<br />

institution;<br />

disability due to a nervous, mental psychological or<br />

emotional disorder, not under the care <strong>of</strong> a registered<br />

specialist in psychiatry, or a doctor approved by a registered<br />

specialist in psychiatry.<br />

(3) Payments from the previous noted schedule will be made on the<br />

following basis with the provision that any absence due to nonoccupational<br />

illness/injury will constitute an occasion:<br />

(i) from the first (1st) day <strong>of</strong> absence for the first three (3)<br />

occasions <strong>of</strong> absence in a calendar year, and<br />

(ii)<br />

from the second (2nd) day <strong>of</strong> the fourth (4th) absence in the<br />

calendar year, and<br />

from the third (3rd) day <strong>of</strong> the fifth (5th) absence in the<br />

calendar year, and<br />

from the fourth (4th) day <strong>of</strong> the sixth (6th) and subsequent<br />

absences in a calendar year.<br />

On consent <strong>of</strong> the Employer, Employees may be given an<br />

opportunity to utilize existing lieu time or vacation credits, to replace<br />

the unpaid days as provided above in (ii), (iii) or (iv). Where the<br />

absence is supported with a medical certificate such consent will<br />

not be unreasonably withheld.<br />

When an Employee can demonstrate to the Employer that he/she<br />

can only attend medical appointments during his/her scheduled<br />

work, the absences shall collectively constitute one occasion for the<br />

purposes <strong>of</strong> this plan. In order for this to occur, the Employee must<br />

provide the Employer with documentation from his/her treatment<br />

provider at the commencement <strong>of</strong> the treatment program, outlining<br />

the anticipated schedule for treatments, including dates when the<br />

series will likely commence and cease.<br />
