This is another one of the easily recognized species of Dysosmia.<br />
The leaves are unusually small for the subgenus and are densely<br />
covered beneath with round, peltate, yellowish scales, which Masters<br />
likens to those of Rhododendron ferrugineum. The stipules are<br />
narrowly triangular.<br />

Low, flat-topped, viscous shrub, 50 cm. high, the crown 80 to 120<br />
cm. wide, with short branches lopping over the skeleton of the plant;<br />
branches densely pilose with white or yellowish, unequal hairs; stipules<br />
semi-annular about the stem, deeply cleft into filiform,<br />
glandtipped<br />
divisions; petioles 1 to 1.5 cm. long, pilose, bearing numerous<br />
coarse, gland-tipped hairs; leaves 1 to 3 cm. long, 2 to 4 cm. wide,<br />
3-lobed (lobes orbicular, rounded), cordate, 3-5-nerved, serrulate<br />
and densely glandular-ciliate, densely brown-hirsute-tomentose,<br />
glutinous on both surfaces; peduncles 4 to 5 cm. long; bracts 2 to 4<br />
cm. long, 8 to 12 mm. wide, pilose, deeply bipinnatisect into capillary,<br />
gland-tipped segments; flowers 5 to 7 cm. wide; sepals linear, 3.5 cm.<br />
long, 4 mm. wide, 3-nerved, pilose and greenish without, glabrous<br />
and white within, slender-awned dorsally just below apex; petals<br />
linear, 2 to 3 cm. long, 3 mm. wide, white, 1-nerved; corona filaments<br />
in several series, those of the 2 outer series erect, capillary, barely 2.5<br />
mm. long, light blue to deep purple, the tips paler, the succeeding<br />
series consisting of minute threads about 0.5 mm. long; operculum<br />
membranous, nonplicate, minutely denticulate; limen erect, membranaceous,<br />
about 3 mm. high, the margin recurved, minutely<br />
crenulate; gynophore slender, 2 cm. long, glabrous, violet at base,<br />
white above; ovary subglobose, sericeo-villous; fruit globose, 2.5 to<br />
3 cm. in diameter, densely pilose; seeds oblong or narrowly cuneate,<br />
6 mm. long, 2 mm. wide, 3-toothed at apex, reticulate with about 30<br />
meshes to each face.<br />
