This species is apparently confined to the arid regions of Lower<br />
California and the northwestern part of Mexico. It is a true vine<br />
and completely lacks the "oiliness" which characterizes P. fruticosa<br />
and P. Palmeri.<br />
LOCAL NAME: "Corona de la reina."<br />
297a. Passiflora arida var. cerralbensis <strong>Killip</strong>, var nov.<br />
Caules, petioli, pedunculi pilis albidis dense et molliter villosuli;<br />
folia pilis lucidis aureo-brunnescentibus lanuginoso-hirsuta; bracteae<br />
pilosae, segmentis filiformibus.<br />
Stem, petioles, and peduncles densely and softly villosulous with<br />
short, white hairs, not lanate; leaves lanuginous-hirsute 'with lustrous,<br />
golden brown hairs, slightly paler beneath; bracts pilose, the<br />
segments filiform.<br />
Type in the United States National Herbarium, No. 1,209,271,<br />
collected at Ruffo's Ranch, Cerralbo Island, Gulf of California,<br />
Mexico, June 7, 1921, by I. M. Johnston (No. 404$)<br />
