3.5 cm. wide, laciniate-fimbriate; flowers up to 8 cm. wide; calyx<br />
tube campanulate; sepals oblong-lanceolate, 3 to 3.5 cm. long, 1 to<br />
1.5 cm. wide, cucullate, long-awned dorsally just below apex, green<br />
without, light blue or violet within; petals linear-lanceolate, as long<br />
as the sepals, obtuse, light blue or violet; corona filaments purple,<br />
with paler bands, in several series, the outermost narrowly ligulate,<br />
1 to 2 cm. long, about 1 mm. wide, transversely banded with purple<br />
and white, those of the second series slightly longer, dilated to 2 mm.<br />
wide below middle, crispate at apex, those of the succeeding series<br />
capillary, 1 to 1.5 mm. long; operculum membranous, incurved, the<br />
margin erect, densely fimbriate; limen cupuliform, about 4 mm.<br />
long, denticulate; ovary ovoid, tomentellous; fruit globose, about 4<br />
cm. in diameter, yellow; seeds obovoid, about 4 mm. long, 3 mm.<br />
wide, and 2 mm. thick, coarsely reticulate.<br />
