Erect or subscandent shrub (?); branches terete, minutely puberulent;<br />

stipules setaceous, 1.5 mm. long, soon deciduous; petioles up to<br />

1.5 cm. long, biglandular at apex; leaves ovate or ovate-lanceolate,<br />

6 to 12 cm. long, 4 to 7 cm. wide, sharp-acuminate at apex, rounded<br />

at base, penninerved (lateral nerves 5 or 6 to a side), conspicuously<br />

reticulate-veined, coriaceous, bright green and shining above, glaucous<br />

beneath, glabrous, puberulous on midnerve beneath; peduncles<br />

solitary or in pairs, up to 1.5 cm. long; calyx tube cylindric-campanulate,<br />

5 to 10 mm. long, about 6 mm. wide at throat; sepals oblonglanceolate,<br />

1.5 to 2 cm. long, 7 to 8 mm. wide, obtuse; petals linearoblanceolate,<br />

equaling or slightly longer than the sepals, obtuse,<br />

violet or light purple(?); corona filaments in 2 series, the outer about<br />

1.3 cm. long, subfalcate, laterally compressed, dilated above middle,<br />

the tips linear-attenuate, sinuate along inner margin, the inner<br />

filiform or narrowly linear, 2.5 mm. long; operculum about 2 mm.<br />

long, membranous below, fimbriate in upper third; ovary ovoid,<br />

pubemlent, about 10-ribbed.<br />

TYPE LOCALITY: Between Tipuani and Guanai, Bolivia.<br />

DISTRIBUTION: Known only from the type locality.<br />

BOLIVIA: La Paz: Between Tipuani and Guanai, Bang 1656<br />

(BM, CM, N, Ph, Y, type).<br />

Shrub or tree, without tendrils, glabrous throughout; stipules<br />

subulate, soon deciduous; petioles 1 to 1.5 cm. long, biglandular at<br />

apex, the glands about 2 mm. in diameter, sessile;<br />

leaves cuneateoblong,<br />

8 to 12 cm. long, 2 to 4 cm. wide, obtuse or short-acute at<br />

apex, gradually tapering from the upper quarter in a slightly curved<br />

line to an acute base, strongly undulate, penninerved (lateral nerves<br />

12 to 15 on each side, spreading, anastomosing close to margin in a<br />

series of broad loops) ;<br />

flowers in short racemes or fascicles, the axis<br />

up to 2.5 cm. long, the pedicels 3 to 5 mm. long; calyx tube cylindric,<br />

about 2.5 cm. long, 4 to 5 mm. wide at throat; sepals oblong-lanceolate,<br />

2 to 2.5 cm. long, 5 to 7 mm. wide, obtuse or subacute; petals<br />

similar and nearly equal to the sepals; corona filaments in a single<br />

series, subdolabriform, 1.5 cm. long, the dilated portion minutely<br />
