This, the commonest representative of Dysosmia in the West
Indies and northern South America, is the form that has often been
considered the true P. foetida of Linnaeus. It is readily recognized,
both in the field and in herbaria, and shows little variation. The
bracts are relatively large, with closely interwoven segments.
The earliest name which can positively be associated with this
plant is that given it by Triana and Planchon, who made use of an
herbarium name of De Candolle's.
