The exact identity of P. tiliaefolia is by no means clear. Apparently<br />
both Linnaeus and Cavanilles knew the plant only from the<br />
description and figure given by Feuille"e. This description in general<br />
would apply almost equally well to either P. ligularis, entire-leaved<br />
forms of P. triloba, or the specimens cited above.<br />

I assume that Cavanilles' illustration arid the figure of a leaf in<br />
the Amoenitates are substantially accurate reproductions. In both of<br />

In the Pav6n plant of P. tiliaefolia in the British Museum the lower stipules<br />
are ovate-lanceolate, about 3 cm. long, 1.5 cm. wide, the upper linear-lanceolate,<br />
1 cm. long, 0.4 cm. wide. The specimen of this same collection at Berlin has linearlanceolate<br />
stipules, 2 cm. long, 0.2 cm. wide. In the Colombian material the<br />
stipules are uniformly ovate-lanceolate.
