Color Management
Closest Match & Colors out of Gamut
The closest match is computed by an equation. The answer to that
equation is called a DELTA E. You must have Lab data in order to
compute the delta E.
Out of gamut colors are handled by RENDERING INTENTS. There are 4.
• Photographic - use for photographs, preference to spatial relationship
between colors
• Presentation - use for business graphics, preference to color
saturation
• Relative Colorimetric - use for proofing or simulating another device,
preference to hue
• Absolute Colorimetric - use for proofing or simulating another device
& the paper’s white point
Another Option
So… let’s say I’m a print shop that has been using an Offset press for
years. Now I purchase a VX5000e and I want my color prints off it to look
like the Offset press prints.
If I follow the color management model we’ve discussed so far, I will get
great color results on the VX5000e, however it may not look like the
Offset press (another OUTPUT device). There is only one OUTPUT
profile in our model.

The CS600 offers another option – SIMULATION – incorporates 3 ICC profiles.
The simulation profile will be set to the press you wish to simulate.
Note: This could be another VX5000e, or a different paper on the VX5000e.
