Data Governance Work Team Charter

Purpose
The Data Governance Work Team is established to support a data governance
framework for the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT). The
work team, under the guidance of the Business Information Council, supports
standardizing procedures for the identification and management of enterprise
data. The Data Governance Work Team supports the department vision and
mission for management of enterprise data.
Responsibilities of the Data Governance Work Team:
Develop a strategy and process for implementing data governance
throughout the organization, which will include:
– Guidance on priorities for implementing data governance on enterprise
data
– Recommended next steps in data governance (development of data
dictionary, review of current inventory of data systems, etc.)
– A Mn/DOT data governance manual documenting the framework
– A communication plan for reaching the entire enterprise
Develop and recommend for implementation a detailed data governance
framework to:
– Define roles and responsibilities in data governance (board/council,
steward, custodian, stakeholder, etc.)
– Define goals/objectives pertaining to the use of data
– Define goals/objective pertaining to data collection
– Identify process for non-compliance with goals/objectives of data
collection and use
– Identify data values/principals/guidelines which support data’s value as
an asset
