4.16 Interview Perceptions: District Strengths, Needs, and Ratings<br />
The Project Consultants conducted interviews with the District<br />
Administrators, <strong>School</strong> Board members, Principals, and other community<br />
patrons and parents to secure perspectives about perceived strengths,<br />
needs, and priority ratings of the <strong>School</strong> District of Bruce, Ladysmith-<br />
Hawkins <strong>School</strong> District, and Weyerhaeuser Area <strong>School</strong> District.<br />
The most frequently identified strengths of the <strong>School</strong> District of Bruce<br />
among individuals interviewed were as follows: small community/small<br />
school district; teaching staff; personalized/individualized attention; facility;<br />
small class sizes.<br />
The most frequently identified needs/concerns of the <strong>School</strong> District of<br />
Bruce among individuals interviewed were as follows: declining programs<br />
and services; declining enrollment; finances; limited curricular options;<br />
school population too small.<br />
Individuals interviewed by the Project Consultants were asked to rate select<br />
quality factors/characteristics of the <strong>School</strong> District of Bruce on a rating<br />
scale of 0 to 10 (lowest to highest). Respondents’ assessments—when<br />
averaged—yielded the following quality ratings of organizational<br />
characteristics:<br />
Quality of the school district: 7.9<br />
Quality of the <strong>School</strong> Board: 7.5<br />
Quality of the administrative staff: 8.6<br />
