Ladysmith-Hawkins <strong>School</strong> District will experience increasing difficulties in<br />
achieving balanced class section sizes and staffing cost/effectiveness at all<br />
levels (and, particularly, at the high school level).<br />
Table 1-W delineates that Weyerhaeuser Area <strong>School</strong> District enrolled 159<br />
students in grades K(4)-12 during the 2008-09 organizational year. The<br />
school’s critical student mass would place it among the smallest 5% of all<br />
school districts in the State of Wisconsin during the 2008-09 school year.<br />
(According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction,<br />
Weyerhaeuser Area <strong>School</strong> District was ranked 420 th among the State of<br />
Wisconsin’s 445 school districts in 2007-08). By State of Wisconsin<br />
standards, Weyerhaeuser Area <strong>School</strong> District would be classified as a<br />
small critical student mass school organization.<br />
An examination of Table 1-W data revealed that 4 students were enrolled in<br />
the 4-year-old kindergarten, 9 students were enrolled in the 5-year-old<br />
kindergarten, 38 students were enrolled in grades 1-5, 33 students were<br />
enrolled in grades 6-8, and 73 students were enrolled in grades 9-12. The<br />
school district’s largest grade level enrollments in 2008-09 occurred in<br />
grades 10 and 11 (19 students each), grade 12 (18 students), grade 9 (17<br />
students), and grade 8 (15 students). The school district’s smallest grade<br />
level enrollments during the same school year were found in 4-year-old<br />
kindergarten (4 students), grades 4 and 5 (5 students each), and grades 1<br />
and 3 (8 students each).<br />
The school district’s largest three-grade level enrollment span occurred at<br />
grades 10-12 with 56 students enrolled during the 2008-09 organizational<br />
