Hazardous Substances and Waste<br />

Introduction<br />

This section discusses the hazardous substance and waste effects of the proposed<br />

alternatives, including the No Action Alternative, with emphasis on the potential<br />

exposure of humans, plants, or wildlife to contaminants. Included in this section<br />

are a description of the site specific hazardous substances and waste materials,<br />

and an overview of the federal and state policies and regulations that govern<br />

hazardous substance mitigation requirements. Potential flooding hazards are<br />

discussed in Section 3.2, Surface Water Hydrology, Tidal Hydraulics, and<br />

Sedimentation; seismic hazards are addressed in Section 3.1, Geology, Soils, and<br />

Paleontology; and potential public health threats are addressed in Section 3.4,<br />

Public Health and Safety.<br />
