Section 3.10. Traffic and Transportation<br />

Assuming one large contract to construct most or all Project features, the typical<br />

construction sequencing could include:<br />

Mobilization<br />

Mobilization would include delivering construction equipment, field offices,<br />

materials and supplies, construction surveying, fencing and signage and other<br />

related activities to prepare the site for actual construction. Typically most<br />

mobilization is completed prior to any construction.<br />

Major Earthwork Features<br />

The major earthwork features of this Project would typically include pilot<br />

channel excavation done synchronously with levee and berm construction.<br />

Various operations would be sequenced to provide the needed fill materials for<br />

the levees and berms in a timely and cost-efficient manner.<br />

Building Demolition<br />

Building demolition would typically occur relatively early in the construction<br />

sequence simply to get these features out of the way of construction. This<br />

demolition could be done by the prime contractor as needed when crews are<br />

available or it could be sub-contracted and completed in one continuous process.<br />

Smaller Project Features<br />

The numerous smaller Project features such as small habitat area excavation,<br />

fencing, pumps, and ditches would likely be completed on an as-needed basis or<br />

used as fill-in work to fully utilize the prime contractor’s available crew and<br />

equipment.<br />

The Bay Trail<br />

Since most of the Bay Trail segments for this Project are located on top of or near<br />

constructed earthwork features, the Bay Trail would need to be constructed last<br />

after all other major earthwork features are completed. An efficient way to<br />

construct the Bay trail would be to complete the basic grading as crews are<br />

available, and then complete final grading and paving in a continuous process<br />

over a short time span.<br />
