These parasitoids are shown attached to a host larva, Spodoptera<br />

litura. The adult parasitoid lays its eggs on the outside of the<br />

hosts body. Hatch<strong>in</strong>g larvae attach themselves to their hosts by<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g their mouth hooks. They pupate <strong>in</strong> cocoons aga<strong>in</strong>st the<br />

body of the dead host.<br />

Name: Glyptapanteles phytometrae (Wilk<strong>in</strong>son)<br />

This braconid parasitoid emerges from its looper host, Chrysodeixis chalcites. A pupal<br />

cocoon is shown beside its dead host larva on a soybean leaf.<br />

Parasitoids <strong>in</strong> this genus attack several host species. The<br />

pictures show newly formed pupal cocoons around and<br />

underneath the dead host larva of the soybean leaffolder,<br />

Omiodes <strong>in</strong>dicata. Chrysodeixis chalcites is also a host<br />

for this group of parasitoids as is Thysanoplusia<br />

orichalcea and the lymantriid, Orgyia sp.<br />

This parasitoid attacks the diamondback moth on crucifer crops.<br />
