C. After Application<br />
1. Make sure the sprayer is empty. Clean and r<strong>in</strong>se the sprayer <strong>in</strong>side and out<br />
and return it to storage area. Dispose of empty pesticide conta<strong>in</strong>ers properly.<br />
2. Store rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g pesticides properly.<br />
3. Bathe and change cloth<strong>in</strong>g after application of pesticides.<br />
4. Stay away from treated field for 1-2 days. This prevents poison<strong>in</strong>g through<br />
contact with treated plants, or <strong>in</strong>halation of pesticide fumes.<br />
E. Types of Pesticide Poison<strong>in</strong>g and Their Symptoms<br />
A. There are two different k<strong>in</strong>ds of poison<strong>in</strong>g. These are acute and chronic.<br />
1. Acute poison<strong>in</strong>g occurs after exposure to just a s<strong>in</strong>gle dose of pesticide.<br />
Symptoms may occur immediately or be slightly delayed.<br />
2. Chronic poison<strong>in</strong>g occurs after repeated exposures over a long period of time.<br />
Symptoms <strong>in</strong>clude nervousness, slowed reflexes, irritability, and a general decl<strong>in</strong>e<br />
of health.<br />
B. The general symptoms of poison<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>clude:<br />
1. Mild poison<strong>in</strong>g or early symptom of acute poison<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
a. Irritation of eyes, nose, or throat<br />
b. Headache and/or dizz<strong>in</strong>ess<br />
c. Fatigue and/or diarrhea<br />
2. Moderate poison<strong>in</strong>g or early symptoms of acute poison<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
a. Upset stomach<br />
b. Extreme weakness, excessive perspiration;<br />
c. Muscle twitches, rapid heartbeat<br />
3. Severe or acute poison<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
a. Vomit<strong>in</strong>g and convulsions, p<strong>in</strong>po<strong>in</strong>t pupils<br />
b. Difficulty <strong>in</strong> breath<strong>in</strong>g, unconsciousness<br />
F. First aid measures for pesticide poison<strong>in</strong>g<br />
A. Call a doctor or br<strong>in</strong>g the patient to the hospital. Show the pesticide and/or label to<br />
the doctor.<br />
B. While wait<strong>in</strong>g for medical help or while transport<strong>in</strong>g the victim to the hospital, apply<br />
the follow<strong>in</strong>g first aid measures:<br />
1. If the patient has pesticide on the sk<strong>in</strong>, wash it off quickly to lessen the degree of<br />
<strong>in</strong>jury.<br />
