Slovene Radio and Television Choir. Two
years later she joined the Slovene Chamber
Choir and in 1994 she became member of
the Slovene National Opera and Ballet Choir
in Ljubljana, where she was soon given her
first solo part as the governess in Tchaikovsky’s
Queen of Spades. In 1996 Mirjam
Kalin became a regular soloist at the Slovene
National Opera and Ballet Ensemble
in Ljubljana where she performed in over 35
different operas. In 1996 she won the Wagner
Scholarship, in 1998 she was awarded
the “Zlata ptica” Award for her performance
of Jela in Kozina’s Opera Equinox and was
laureate of the Prešeren Foundation in 2005.
Mirjam is an indispensable performer on
concert stages throughout Slovenia. As a
soloist she performed throughout Europe
with a repertoire ranging from baroque
to contemporary music. She worked with
many renowned conductors, including
Zubin Mehta, Dieter Rossberg, Franišek
Praisler, Fuat Mansurov, George Pehlivanian
and many others. Mirjam’s broad repertoire
includes songs from Beethoven, Brahms,
Dvořák, Grieg, Gustav and Alma Mahler,
Mussorgsky, Schubert, Schumann, Zemlinsky,
Ciglič, Ipavec, Kozina, Kogoj, Krek,
Lajovic, Lipovšek, Mavri, Strmčnik, Šivic,
Škrjanc and Vremšak.
Mike Kerin
Mike Kerin igra na violino, kitaro in
mandolino, ima izjemen glas ter posluh
za nenavadne harmonije. V avstralski
»country« glasbi zaradi dovršene muzikalnosti
in veliko izkušenj uživa visok
ugled. Kerin se z glasbo profesionalno
ukvarja od leta 1978. Ima enega tistih izjemnih
naravnih glasbenih talentov, ki mu
dovoljuje improvizacijo tudi v skladbah,
ki jih ne pozna. Avstralskim ljubiteljem
country glasbe je Kerin znan predvsem
po svojih nastopih in posnetkih s skupino
Gaelforce; The Flying Emus, s katerimi je
sklenil dogovor, da ne bodo iste skladbe
nikoli zaigrali na enak način. Med drugim
je sodeloval tudi s skupino Travelling
Country Band, Slimom Dustyjem,
WheelerDealersi in mnogimi drugimi
avstralskimi glasbeniki. Slim Dusty je
Kerina spoznal z Richardom Tognettijem,
s katerim sta na podelitvi nagrad Australian
National Living Treasures leta 2001
presenetila z improviziranim nastopom.
Nasled nje leto je Tognetti, kot umetniški
vodja Huntington Festivala, Kerina in Travelling
Country Band povabil k sodelovanju.
Za vrhunec festivala sta pred navdušenim
občinstvom s svojim prijateljskim
violinskim »dvobojem« poskrbela prav
Kerin in Tognetti.
Mike Kerin plays fiddle, guitar and mandolin,
and has a fine voice and an ear for
aching, unusual harmonies. He has a firstrate
reputation in Australian country music
for his consummate musicianship and vast
experience. He has been a professional musician
since 1978 and a quiet driving force
in the country music scene. He is one of
those exceptional and natural musicians
who can improvise an accompaniment or
take a lead solo, even in an unfamiliar work.
Mike is well-known to Australian lovers of
country music through his performances
and recordings with the touring band
Gaelforce; the Flying Emus, who had a pact
with each other never to perform a song
the same way twice; and the Travelling
Country Band, Slim Dusty, and the WheelerDealers,
alongside countless others. Slim
Dusty was responsible for introducing Mike
Kerin and Richard Tognetti to one another,
following an impromptu performance at a
ceremony celebrating Australia’s National
Living Treasures in 2001. The following year,
Mike and the Travelling Country Band were
invited to appear at the Huntington Festival
in Mudgee, of which Tognetti was the Artistic
Director. A highlight of the Festival was a
