in Budapest. In the USSR he was the soloist
of the Moscow Philharmonic Organization
Mosconcert, violist of the Beethoven
State Quartet and assistant-professor at
the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
From 1990 till 1996 he was a professor at
the Jerusalem Rubin Academy of Music and
Dance. In 1996 he settled in Belgium and
now he is a professor at the Ghent Royal
Conservatory and at the Maastricht Royal
Conservatory. He appeared as a soloist
with many major orchestras and in major
concert halls throughout the world. He has
taken part in festivals and has given master
classes in Europe, America, Asia and Far
East. Michael Kugel has enriched the viola
repertoire with many transcriptions and his
own compositions: Concerto for viola and
orchestra, sonatas, duos, suites, preludes
etc. He was a member of jury for International
Competitions in England, Germany,
Italy, Austria, Israel, Belgium, USA, Croatia,
Holland etc. He has recorded about 20 discs
and also made numerous recordings as a
conductor and viola d’amore performer. He
is the author of two the two books: “Viola
Sonata by Shostakovich and Viola Concerto
by Bartók – The History of an Era” and the
“Masterpieces of the Instrumental Music”.
Boštjan Lipovšek
Boštjan Lipovšek izhaja iz glasbene družine,
v kateri je igranje roga tradicija.
Njegova prva mentorja sta bila oče in
brat, glasbeno šolanje pa je nadaljeval
na ljubljanski glasbeni akademiji pri prof.
Jožetu Faloutu. Pri njem je tudi diplomiral
ter zaključil podiplomski študij. Izpopolnjeval
se je pri Radovanu Vlatkoviću na
salzburškem Mozarteumu. Med študijem
v Ljubljani je dobil študentsko Prešernovo
nagrado za izvedbo Straussovega Prvega
koncerta za rog in orkester s Simfoničnim
orkestrom RTV Slovenija. V tem
orkestru je kmalu zatem zasedel mesto
solista hornista. Kot solist je nastopal tudi
z Orkestrom Slovenske filharmonije, z
Mariborsko filharmonijo, Dubrovniškim
simfoničnim orkestrom, s Filharmoničnim
orkestrom iz Vidma, Komornim orkestrom
Padova e Veneto in z orkestrom Jeunesses
musicales. Igra pod taktirko odličnih dirigentov,
kot so Anton Nanut, Uroš Lajovic,
Marko Letonja, S. Pelegrino Amato, Gary
Brain, Amy Anderson, Yakov Kreizberg,
Sian Edwards. Kot solist je gostoval pri nacionalnem
orkestru opere La Monnaie v
Bruslju in pri Berlinskih simfonikih, sodeloval
pa je tudi z Mahlerjevim komornim
orkestrom. Od leta 1999 kot asistent, od
leta 2004 pa kot docent predava na Akademiji
za glasbo v Ljubljani. Leta 2005 je
pričel kot docent predavati na Akademiji
za glasbo v Zagrebu. Boštjan je dobitnik
nagrade Prešernovega sklada leta 2008.
Boštjan Lipovšek comes from a musical
family with a long tradition of horn players.
His first mentors were his father and
brother, followed by prof. Jože Falout at
the Music Academy in Ljubljana. Boštjan
Lipovšek studied with prof. Falout through
his graduate and post-graduate studies.
Later he went to the Salzburg Mozarteum
for advanced studies with Radovan
Vlatković. During his study in Ljubljana he
received the Student Prešeren Award for his
interpretation of Strauss Concerto No. 1 for
horn and orchestra with the RTV Slovenia
Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist he played
with the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra,
Maribor Philharmonics, Dubrovnik Symphony
Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra
from Udine, Chamber Orchestra Padova e
Veneto and Jeunesses musicales Orchestra.
He played under the guidance of great conductors,
such as Anton Nanut, Uroš Lajovic,
Marko Letonja, David de Villiers, S. Pelegrino
Amato, Gary Brain, Amy Anderson, Yakov
Kreizberg, Sian Edwards. He played as
guest soloist with the national orchestra of
La monnaie Opera house in Brussels and
with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and
