the same time he studied the harpsichord
with Carsten Lohff and subsequently finished
post-graduate studies in thorough
bass with Alberto Rinaldi. He received the
highest award at the First International
Viola da Gamba Competition Bach-Abel in
Cöthen in 1997. He performes as continuo
player with various Slovenian orchestras
and with ensembles such as Ricercar Consort,
Ars Antiqua Austria, Ensemble Phoenix
Munich and Stylus Phantasticus. He has
participated in CD productions for labels
such as Aeolus, Harmonia Mundi France
and Ricercar. He co-founded the Slovenian
early music ensembles Musica Cubicularis
and Harmonia Antiqua Labacensis. He takes
special interest in continuo performance
based on thorough historical research,
and has reconstructed the missing parts
for performances and editions of works by
various 17 th - and 18 th -century composers.
He teaches thorough bass and score reading
at the Department of Musicology at the
University of Ljubljana.

John Mc Sherry je znan kot eden največjih
svetovnih virtuozov igranja na irske dude.
Irish Music Magazine ga je oklical za »resničnega
mojstra«, Green Man Review pa
ga je imenoval za »najpomembnejšo gonilno
silo sodobnih inovacij«, saj je s svojim
edinstvenim stilom ponesel igranje na
irske dude v nove višave. Njegov smisel za
improvizacijo so nekateri primerjali celo s
tistim, ki ga premore ena največjih legend
jazz glasbe, John Coltrane. Mc Sherry je
kot solist in član mnogih izvrstnih glasbenih
skupin nastopil na glasbenih odrih
po vsem svetu. Je skladatelj, producent,
aranžer in priznan studijski glasbenik –
med številnimi imeni, s katerimi je sodeloval
pri snemanju plošč, so tudi skupina
Clannad, Nancy Griffiths, Shaun Davey in
Donal Lunny. John se je rodil v zahodnem
Belfastu in odraščal v družini, predani tradicionalni
glasbi. Irske dude so ga očarale
že v zgodnji mladosti in tako je že pri
petnajstih postal dvakratni vseirski prvak,
pri osemnajstih pa najmlajši zmagovalec
v zgodovini prestižnega in pomembnega
glasbenega tekmovanja Oireachtas. V
80-ih letih je ustanovil skupino Tamalin,
ki je uspešno preigravala fuzijo rocka,
tradicionalne irske, keltske in vzhodne
glasbe. V 90-ih je bil soustanovitelj folk
skupine Lunasa, razen tega pa je nastopal
tudi z glasbeniki in glasbenimi skupinami
kot so Dan Ar Braz, Riverdance, Ornette
Coleman in Secret Garden.
John Mc Sherry is hailed as one of the finest
exponents of the art of uilleann piping in the
world today – “a true master” – Irish Music
Magazine. Described as being “at the forefront
of modern innovation” – Green Man
Review, he has taken piping and whistle
playing to new heights with his unique
style. His sense for improvisation has even
been compared to that of the great Jazz
legend John Coltrane. John has toured
the world as both a solo performer and a
member of several outstanding bands. He
is a composer, producer, arranger and established
studio session musician of world
class, recording and performing with everybody
from Clannad, Sinead O’Connor
and Nancy Griffiths, to Shaun Davey, Donal
Lunny and The Corrs. Born in West Belfast
and coming from a family steeped in traditional
music, John focused his energies
on the pipes from an early age. By the time
he reached fifteen he had two All Ireland
Championship titles under his belt and at
the age of eighteen he was the youngest
ever winner of the prestigious and much
coveted ‘Oireachtas’ piping competition.
Combining with his musical siblings, John
formed the exciting and innovative band
Tamalin, bringing their unique fusion of
Irish, Rock, Eastern and Celtic music to
enthusiastic audiences around the world.
