Fashion Design<br />

Associate of Applied <strong>Science</strong>, (AAS.FAD)<br />

The Fashion Design program prepares a student to begin<br />

work in the field of fashion immediately after graduation.<br />

Students who successfully complete this program will<br />

receive a solid introduction to the foundations of apparel<br />

design and to the current practices in the apparel industry.<br />

The business aspects of developing and designing fashion<br />

apparel in a global marketplace are emphasized.<br />

Students will explore the employment opportunities<br />

available to them in the apparel industry. Positions available<br />

to individuals with an education in fashion design include:<br />

Fashion Designer<br />

Fashion Product Developer<br />

Product Manager<br />

Merchandise Director<br />

Fashion Director<br />

Technical Director<br />

Graduates of this program should be able to:<br />

Conceptualize a group of related pieces of apparel;<br />

Execute documentation that shows how to successfully<br />

produce a prototype piece of apparel;<br />

Solve a variety of problems routinely presented to the<br />

apparel designer;<br />

Demonstrate knowledge of the current international<br />

textile, apparel design, and apparel marketing<br />

industries;<br />

Place in historical context and describe individual<br />

pieces of apparel and apparel ensembles;<br />

Enter the field of apparel development as assistants in<br />

design, technical design, or production.<br />
