Music<br />

Option to Liberal Arts and <strong>Science</strong>s, (AS.MUS)<br />

The Associate of <strong>Science</strong> in Music degree provides students<br />

with a variety of courses in music appreciation, theory,<br />

harmony, and performance. In addition to music teaching,<br />

students who complete the Music major may pursue<br />

employment opportunities as a church musician or director,<br />

professional performer, or in the music industry.<br />

All students are advised to select academic courses which<br />

will coincide with their intended careers. Students should<br />

become familiar with the college catalog of the intended<br />

transfer college.<br />

Graduates of this program should be able to:<br />

Demonstrate proficiency on an orchestral/band<br />

instrument, piano, voice, guitar or electronic music<br />

media;<br />

Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of music;<br />

Write harmonizations in both diatonic and chromatic<br />

styles;<br />

Utilize aural skills developed through sight-singing,<br />

ear training and musical dictation;<br />

Perform in a recital, demonstrating both the technical<br />

and artistic components of music.<br />

Students who plan to transfer are encouraged to check<br />

the catalogs from four-year colleges or universities for<br />

baccalaureate requirements.<br />
