ADMISSION<br />
<strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong> has an<br />
Open Enrollment Policy.<br />
BCC’s vocational opportunities are<br />
accessible without regard to race, color,<br />
national origin, sex or handicap.<br />
You may begin your studies at BCC if:<br />
you have a high school diploma<br />
or<br />
you have an equivalency (GED)<br />
certificate<br />
or<br />
you are a high school or home-schooled<br />
student with permission<br />
or<br />
you are a non high school graduate<br />
with ability to perform college-level<br />
work and benefit from a post secondary<br />
education<br />
Applying to the <strong>College</strong><br />
1. Submit a completed application for<br />
admission and $20 (non-refundable<br />
processing fee) to the Office of Ad missions;<br />
you may apply online at www.bcc.edu and<br />
the $20 application fee is waived.<br />
2. Request an official transcript from your<br />
secondary school showing subjects<br />
completed, grades earned, and date of<br />
graduation. A General Education Diploma<br />
(GED) may be submitted as evidence of<br />
high school graduation.<br />
3. Request official transcripts to be<br />
forwarded to the Office of Admissions<br />
from any college previously attended.<br />
Note: Some programs have selected admissions.<br />
Refer to specific program brochures (American<br />
Sign Language/Interpreter Education, Dental<br />
Hygiene, Nursing, Health Information<br />
Technology, Radiography, Diagnostic Medical<br />
Sonography, Respiratory Therapy and<br />
Hearing Instrument <strong>Science</strong> and Coding<br />
Certificate program) for policies specific to<br />
each program.<br />
<strong>College</strong> Assessment<br />
The State of New Jersey requires all institutions<br />
of higher education to assess all full-time and<br />
part-time entering students for proficiency in<br />
reading, writing, computation and elementary<br />
algebra. Students will be assessed after they<br />
have been admitted to the college. All degreeseeking<br />
students must show ability to benefit<br />
from college-level courses. The assessment will<br />
be used for course placement purposes. No<br />
student will be denied admission to the college<br />
based on the assessment results but course<br />
selection may be restricted based on the<br />
student’s performance on the assessment.<br />
The assessment is taken after application<br />
materials have been processed.<br />
Students may be exempted from taking the<br />
assessment if they:<br />
are enrolled in a bilingual or English<br />
as a Second Language (ESL) program.<br />
They must be evaluated after they<br />
complete the program.<br />
already hold an associate degree or higher<br />
from an accredited college or university and<br />
can provide proof of completion.<br />
have successfully completed the equivalent<br />
of English Composition (ENG 101) and<br />
college-level math (MTH 107 or higher)<br />
with a grade of “C” or higher and can<br />
provide proof of completion.<br />
scored 540 or higher on SAT Critical<br />
Reading and 530 or higher on SAT Math,<br />
or have the ACT score of 23 in Reading<br />
and 20 in Math and provide proof<br />
of completion.*<br />
have met the <strong>College</strong>’s requirement for<br />
CLEP or Advanced Placement in English,<br />
computation and elementary algebra.<br />
have completed developmental courses<br />
comparable to BCC’s highest level<br />
of remediation at another regionally<br />
accredited college. Students must<br />
provide a transcript and a catalog<br />
course description.<br />
are not working toward a degree and<br />
want to attempt fewer than 30 credits.<br />
The assessment will be required prior<br />
to attempting the 30th credit.<br />
have taken the assessment at another<br />
New Jersey college and the results<br />

Applicants cannot register for English<br />
Composition (ENG 101) or college-level<br />
mathematics (MTH 100 or higher) or courses<br />
with a math or English prerequisite if they<br />
have not taken or been exempted from<br />
the assessment.<br />
*Note: <strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong> is committed to an<br />
analysis of the new SAT Reasoning Writing scores<br />
submitted to the college beginning with the graduating<br />
class of 2006. This study will examine the relationship<br />
of SAT Writing scores, Accuplacer performance and<br />
grades earned.<br />
Pre-Enrollment Session<br />
The college provides this service to all students<br />
who have taken the <strong>College</strong> Assessment. During<br />
the session you will receive your scores and<br />
will be assisted in interpreting them. You will<br />
be provided with information on academic<br />
programs and the transfer process. In addition,<br />
you will receive assistance in selecting and<br />
registering for courses.<br />

Spring Ahead! Program<br />
High school seniors at <strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> high<br />
schools may participate in a program for early<br />
enrollment at <strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong>. The<br />
program offers BCC information sessions and<br />
college assessment at most high schools and all<br />
schools participate in the registration/visit<br />
session. By acquiring information and taking<br />
the assessment early, students are able to get<br />
the best selection of courses, locations and<br />
times during the Spring registration/visit.<br />

Transfer Students<br />
An applicant who has attended another<br />
post-secondary institution and who wishes<br />
to have any credits earned at the previous<br />
school applied toward his/her degree<br />
requirements at Bur lington <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />
must fulfill the following requirements:<br />
1. an applicant must be enrolled in a degree<br />
or certificate program.<br />
2. an official transcript from each school that<br />
the student has attended must be<br />
received by the BCC Admissions Office.<br />
3. Students who have attended international<br />
universities must have their transcripts<br />
evaluated (course by course) by any<br />
NACES (National Association of Credential<br />
Evaluation Services) Member. The evaluation<br />
must be submitted to the Admissions Office.<br />
Applicants to the American Sign Language/<br />
Interpreter Education, Nursing and Allied<br />
Health programs must consult admission<br />
information brochures for specific policies<br />
about transferring college courses into each<br />
discipline. Students interested in transferring<br />
college courses into one or more legal<br />
specialty courses of the Paralegal program<br />
should refer to page 124 of this catalog.<br />
After the Registrar’s Office has determined<br />
the acceptability and appropriateness of the<br />
credits to the student’s program, a copy of<br />
the evaluation will be mailed to the student.<br />
Generally, <strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong> accepts<br />
transfer credits, not grades, from accredited<br />
colleges and universities provided that they are<br />
submitted as official transcripts and have been<br />
completed with a grade of ‘‘C’’ or better. The<br />
maximum number of credits that can be<br />
accepted cannot exceed 75% of the required<br />
credits in a program, usually 48 credits.<br />
Appeals of transfer decisions are to be<br />
directed to the Vice President of Academic<br />
Programs.
