This program will provide students with<br />
fundamental training in the area of drug and<br />
alcohol counseling. This certificate is of value<br />
to students entering the human services<br />
profession who are seeking indepth training in<br />
a specialized area of practice as well as those<br />
who are already experienced in the drug and<br />
alcohol field who may use this certificate to<br />
advance their skills and qualifications.<br />
This program requires 15 credits in a five<br />
course cluster, one of which is a field<br />
placement in a drug and alcohol facility.<br />

Program. The four educational modules that<br />
will transfer in provide training in<br />
Communications (36 clock hours), Cultural<br />
Competence (36 clock hours), Child<br />
Development (36 clock hours), and Student/<br />
Staff Safety and Health Issues (36 clock hours)<br />
in conjunction with 56 hours of Career<br />
Development Training. The certificate will<br />
allow recipients to have a strong grounding<br />
in business and educational support services<br />
for paraprofessional positions.<br />

Coding Certificate<br />
Program (SPC.ACO)<br />
§ This certificate is NOT eligible for Financial Aid.<br />
This program will prepare students for entry<br />
level employment as a medical coder in the<br />
inpatient or other medical settings such as<br />
clinics, physician offices, health insurance<br />
companies, and consulting firms.<br />
Student will acquire basic knowledge to:<br />
assign diagnoses/procedure codes using<br />
ICD-9 CM Volumes I-III; assign procedure<br />
codes using CPT-4; validate coding accuracy<br />
using clinical information in the patient’s<br />
health record; use electronic application and<br />
work processes to support clinical classification<br />
and coding; understand Diagnostic<br />
Related Groups (DRG’s); interpret and apply<br />
regulatory guidelines; and prepare for the<br />
coding certification exam of the student’s<br />
choice.<br />
Students will receive a career certificate<br />
and 26 credits that can easily transfer to the<br />
HIT associates degree. (Credits required are<br />
subject to change with the addition of the<br />
Professional Practice Experience.)<br />
The program is part time over an 18<br />
month period to accommodate employed<br />
students. Classes are typically offered in the<br />
evenings.<br />
Admission requirements: Graduation<br />
from high school or attainment of a GED<br />
with C grade or higher; High school biology<br />
or equivalent college course work;<br />
Completion of the Psychological Services<br />
Bureau (PSB) Health Occupations Aptitude<br />
examination; and Criminal background<br />
check with satisfactory outcome conducted<br />
by Adam Safeguard.<br />
