Entertainment Technologies/Sound and Recording Engineering<br />

Option to Entertainment Technologies, (AAS.ETS)<br />

The Entertainment Technology Program provides students<br />

with a solid foundation in the knowledge and skills needed<br />

for entry into the entertainment field, or to transfer to a<br />

baccalaureate program. Students may choose from the<br />

following four options: Entertainment Management<br />

(AAS.ETM), Lighting Engineering (AAS.ETL), Sound and<br />

Recording Engineering (AAS.ETS), and Video and Digital<br />

Media Production (AAS.ETV). Students who wish to transfer<br />

to a baccalaureate program are strongly advised to seek<br />

information regarding admission and transfer requirements.<br />

The Sound and Recording Engineering Option provides<br />

students with opportunities for entry-level positions in<br />

theatrical performance, entertainment events, audio<br />

production for theatre, concerts, theme parks, industrial/<br />

corporate settings, and in sound and recording studios.<br />

Graduates may also work as freelancers and entrepreneurs.<br />

Students will learn amplification, sound reinforcement, and<br />

recording of live performances. They will develop a practical<br />

and operational understanding of the various hardware<br />

elements that include speakers, mixers, amplifiers, and<br />

microphones, analog and digital recording, mixing<br />

consoles, signal routing and processors (equalizers,<br />

compressors, limiters, gates, etc.). Students will also have<br />

hands-on experiences that enable them to edit audio, mix<br />

audio, utilize acoustics, synchronize audio with video and<br />

multimedia, and add sound effects.<br />

Graduates of this program should be able to:<br />

Operate audio amplification and recording equipment.<br />

Edit and mix audio, add sound effects and produce<br />

video and multimedia.<br />

Configure, operate, and serve on a “crew” while<br />

utilizing sound and live recording systems.<br />

Become familiar with pro audio procedures, protocols<br />

and vocabulary and be able to render high quality<br />

audio production both live and in the studio.<br />

Understand the business dynamics of the audio industry<br />

and learn to navigate corporate and entrepreneurial<br />

dealings.<br />

Obtain entry-level employment in the entertainment<br />

and associate fields, particularly in the field of sound<br />

amplification (public address and concerts), recording,<br />

audio for video production, concert and events venues,<br />

recording companies, music entertainment fields, as<br />

freelancers, or self-employment careers.<br />
