This 10-credit certificate program is intended to<br />
upgrade the computer skills of employed fashion<br />
design and apparel production professionals.<br />
Students who successfully complete the<br />
certificate program will: demonstrate<br />
competence in flat sketching for the visual<br />
documentation of apparel, both manually and<br />
with the assistance of computer software;<br />
demonstrate competence writing garment specifications,<br />
for both knitted and woven garments;<br />
and use industry appropriate software to execute<br />
fashion related materials for record keeping, presentation<br />
and promotional purposes.<br />

Technical Fashion Design<br />
Certificate (SPC.TFD)§<br />
This 11-credit certificate program is for<br />
students who wish to develop only the<br />
technical skills required for apparel design and<br />
development. Students may use this certificate<br />
to support their own entrepreneurial activities<br />
related to sewn products, including apparel.<br />
They may also make use of the certificate<br />
program to gain skills that enhance personal<br />
development and/or facilitate self-expression.<br />
Students who successfully complete the<br />
certificate program will: use industrial<br />
equipment to demonstrate competence in<br />
executing the construction and assembly<br />
skills required for sewn product development;<br />
demonstrate competence in beginning to<br />
intermediate level pattern drafting, and<br />
beginning level draping, as required to<br />
develop basic garments and styling details<br />
used in basic garments; and test an original<br />
garment style through the construction<br />
prototypes in both muslin and fashion<br />
fabric, making use of draping, patternmaking,<br />
and construction/assembly skills.<br />
