Theatre<br />
Option to Liberal Arts, (AA.THR)<br />
The Associate of Arts in Theatre is designed to prepare<br />
students for transfer to a four-year school offering a<br />
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts with concentration<br />
in Theatre or Speech and Theatre.<br />
Students planning to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree may<br />
intend to teach in the public schools, with proper school<br />
certification, either at the elementary or secondary level.<br />
Students who transfer to a four-year school offering a<br />
Bachelor of Fine Arts may intend to pursue a career in the<br />
professional theatre in acting, directing, scene design or<br />
technical theatre.<br />
Students who earn degrees in Theatre often find careers in<br />
sales, marketing, broadcasting, public relations, and law or<br />
pursue higher degrees in Communications.<br />
Graduates of this program should be able to:<br />
Demonstrate effective oral and written<br />
communication skills;<br />
Critically evaluate a play, a theatrical performance<br />
and other art forms;<br />
Apply technical skills in the areas of set design;<br />
construction and stage management;<br />
Develop critical perspectives, which guide<br />
aesthetic choices;<br />
Demonstrate a broad-based liberal arts education;<br />
Present an effective theatrical performance in a<br />
college sponsored play;<br />
Develop their voice, body and imagination through<br />
creative expression;<br />
Transfer to a four-year institution in a theatre<br />
or conservatory training program.<br />
Students who wish to complete a baccalaureate degree<br />
in theatre should become familiar with the college catalog<br />
for the intended transfer institution.<br />
