MTH 143 Statistics I 4 cr.<br />

This course presents basic statistical principles<br />

and methods. It focuses on descriptive<br />

statistics, probability theory, Binomial, Poisson,<br />

z, t, and Chi-square distributions, central limit<br />

theorem, confidence intervals, and hypothesis<br />

testing. One hour per week is spent in the<br />

microcomputer laboratory exploring software<br />

applications of statistical concepts presented in<br />

the lecture. No previous computer experience<br />

is assumed.<br />

Prerequisite: MTH 112 or MTH 141<br />

or MTH 130<br />

Note: Students may receive credit for either<br />

MTH 107 or MTH 143, but not credit for<br />

applications of real finite dimensional vector<br />

spaces and linear transformations. It includes<br />

of linear equations, change of basis,<br />

and eigenvalues.<br />

Geometry 4 cr.<br />

This course focuses on vectors in the plane<br />

and space, vector calculus, multivariate<br />

functions and partial derivatives, directional<br />

derivatives, multiple integrals and surface<br />

integrals, vector fields, line integrals,<br />

Greens’s theorem, Divergence theorem and<br />

Stokes’s theorem.<br />

This course is an elementary introduction to<br />

certain topics in Discrete Mathematics<br />

appropriate for work in computer science and<br />

combinatorics, graphs, trees, and Boolean<br />

Algebra.<br />

This course focuses on methods of solution,<br />

applications, and theory of ordinary differential<br />

equations. It includes first order differential<br />

equations, linear differential equations of<br />

equations.<br />

This course focuses on test of fit, test of<br />

independence, analysis of variance, simple<br />

and multiple regression, correlation analysis,<br />

mathematics. Projects include a statement<br />

of objectives, a literature search, and a<br />

written report.<br />

Lab hours depend on the project<br />

MUS 101 Introduction to Music 3 cr.<br />

This course discusses the place of music in the<br />

life of humans. It emphasizes stimulating the<br />

enjoyment of music. It focuses on methods of<br />

comprehending music, listening techniques,<br />

discernment of musical elements, and the<br />

recognition of primary musical forms in<br />

an attempt to develop intelligent and<br />

discriminating listeners.<br />

MUS 105 Fundamentals of Music 3 cr.<br />

This course is an integrated study of the construction<br />

and language of music through<br />

musical notation, scales, rhythm, and<br />

harmony, with rudimentary performance on a<br />

melody instrument. It is for the student with<br />

or without previous musical training.<br />

This course develops the ability to sight-sing<br />

melodic passages and to notate rhythmic,<br />

melodic, and harmonic examples through ear<br />

training exercises.<br />

MUS 210 Aural Perception II 2 cr.<br />

This course further develops aural skills<br />

including the ability to sight-sing melodic<br />

passages and to notate rhythmic, melodic,<br />

MUS 111-114 Brass Ensemble I-IV 1 cr. ea.<br />

These courses are instrumental ensembles that<br />

involve class rehearsals, instructor presentation<br />

and demonstration of performance<br />

techniques, and public performance. Each<br />

ensemble meets once per week. Music<br />

performance courses are recommended<br />

electives for music majors and are open to all<br />

students who play musical instruments.<br />

Note: Student participation in instrumental<br />

ensembles are determined by the instructor of<br />

the course.<br />

Prerequisite: Courses should be taken in<br />

sequence I-IV.<br />

MUS 115 Harmony 3 cr.<br />

This course focuses on traditional diatonic<br />

harmony covering primary and secondary<br />

triads and their inversions. It emphasizes a<br />

four-part harmonization of a melody and<br />

bass lines. It continues sight-singing, rhythmic,<br />

and melodic dictation.<br />
