Biology<br />

Option to Liberal Arts and <strong>Science</strong>s, (AS.BIO)<br />

This program prepares students to transfer to a four-year<br />

institution to complete a baccalaureate degree with a<br />

major in one of the following areas: biology, microbiology,<br />

biotechnology, physical therapy, pharmacology or physician<br />

assistant programs. Students in this program engage in a<br />

broad-based liberal arts and sciences curriculum that is<br />

typical of freshman and sophomore biology major at a<br />

four-year institution.<br />

Graduates of baccalaureate biology programs can enter<br />

professional programs such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary<br />

medicine, chiropractic medicine, and physical or occupational<br />

therapy. Biology graduates can also continue graduate work<br />

beyond their baccalaureate degree and enter exciting<br />

research fields such as molecular biology, microbiology,<br />

botany, and zoology.<br />

Graduates of this program should be able to:<br />

Understand and apply biological concepts<br />

and principles;<br />

Apply critical thinking and problem solving skills<br />

in the analysis of data, in the design of experimental<br />

procedures and in the evaluation of outcomes;<br />

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;<br />

Transfer to a four-year institution in a biology program.<br />
