Liberal Arts and <strong>Science</strong>s<br />

Associate of <strong>Science</strong>, (AS.LSC)<br />

This curriculum is designed for students who desire to<br />

pursue an academic concentration in one of the natural<br />

science or allied health areas. Included is the appropriate<br />

General Education foundation with sufficient flexibility to<br />

accommodate the requirements of the four-year<br />

institution(s) to which students may wish to transfer.<br />

Students must be familiar with the catalog(s) of the transfer<br />

college(s) to enable them to select courses wisely.<br />

Graduates of this program should be able to:<br />

Understand and employ the scientific method of<br />

inquiry to draw conclusions based on verifiable<br />

evidence;<br />

Apply critical thinking and problem solving skills in<br />

the analysis of data, in the design of experimental<br />

procedures and evaluation of outcomes;<br />

Understand and explain scientific theories that have<br />

had a broad impact on society;<br />

Demonstrate knowledge of current scientific<br />

advances and techniques;<br />

Demonstrate good laboratory skills;<br />

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;<br />

Transfer to a four-year institution in an<br />

appropriate program.<br />

Certificate (CRT.LSC) §<br />

This certificate will give students exposure to coursework<br />

that will assist them in transferring to four year institutions<br />

and will give them a completion certificate. Courses<br />

selected should be transfer friendly and follow our<br />

general education framework. The certificate will also<br />

provide a good background for a student continuing to<br />

pursue an Associate degree, particularly an Associate of<br />

Arts degree.<br />
