Servicemembers Opportunity<br />
<strong>College</strong>s Associate Degree<br />
<strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong> has been designated<br />
as an institutional member of Servicemembers<br />
Opportunity <strong>College</strong>s (SOC), a group of over<br />
400 colleges and universities providing<br />
voluntary postsecondary education to members<br />
of the military throughout the world. As an SOC<br />
member, <strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong> recognizes<br />
the unique nature of the military lifestyle and<br />
has committed itself to easing the transfer of<br />
relevant course credits, providing flexible<br />
academic residency requirements and crediting<br />
learning from appropriate military training and<br />
experiences. SOC has been developed jointly<br />
by educational representatives of each of the<br />
Armed Services, the Office of the Secretary of<br />
Defense and a consortium of 13 leading national<br />
higher education associations. It is sponsored<br />
by the American Association of State <strong>College</strong>s<br />
and Universities (AASCU) and the American<br />
Association of Community <strong>College</strong>s (AACC).<br />
Associate Degree Program for<br />
Military Personnel (SOCAD)<br />
<strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong> is one of<br />
approximately 100 institutions providing<br />
occupational and flexible SOCAD programs<br />
on over 200 Army installations worldwide.<br />
These programs lead to associate degrees<br />
and most of them correspond to enlisted<br />
and warrant officer job specialties.<br />
Distance Education<br />
<strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong> has been actively<br />
involved with distance learning since 1978,<br />
providing classes for those who want or need<br />
an alternative to classroom based courses. Each<br />
semester classes are offered which span the<br />
disciplines from Art to Music and from Biology<br />
to Physical <strong>Science</strong>. Our online courses feature<br />
state-of-the-art course management systems<br />
to deliver dynamic college level instruction over<br />
the Internet.<br />
Online courses typically include textbook<br />
readings, web-based resources, interaction<br />
with highly qualified faculty, interaction with<br />
fellow students, projects and exams. <strong>College</strong><br />
faculty are available to answer questions and<br />
direct student learning. Distance Learning<br />
courses are part of the curriculum, allowing<br />
students to learn whenever and wherever it’s<br />
convenient for them, while satisfying degree<br />
requirements. Students who are selfmotivated<br />
and highly organized tend to be<br />
successful in Distance Learning courses.<br />

Service Learning<br />
<strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong> offers students the<br />
opportunity to participate in Service Learning<br />
activities. Service Learning enhances the academic<br />
curriculum by extending learning experiences<br />
outside the classroom. It encourages students<br />
to develop a sense of civic responsibility and<br />
caring for others. Students will devote a<br />
specified number of hours to community service<br />
through the coordination of their classroom<br />
instructor. Interested students should check<br />

The Institute for Professional Development<br />

The Institute offers certificate programs<br />
designed to improve career skills in business as<br />
well as classes to assist small business owners.<br />
The college has partnered with Ed2Go and<br />
ACT Gatlin Education to provide a variety of<br />
distance learning courses for both the<br />
general public and business/industry<br />
customers.<br />
