Each description includes a key indicating the<br />
weekly hours assigned to lecture, laboratory<br />
or studio and clinical activities for the course.<br />
For example, 3/2/1 means the course involves<br />
3 hours of lecture per week, 2 hours of lab or<br />
studio per week, and 1 hour clinical per week.<br />
Certain courses are offered only once<br />
or twice a year or on a 15-week format<br />
only. Please check course descriptions and<br />
semester brochures. Some courses require<br />

Accounting<br />
ACC 112 Principles of Financial Accounting I<br />
with Spreadsheets 4 cr.<br />
This course introduces accrual accounting<br />
theory and practice. It includes financial<br />
statements, the accounting cycle, accounting<br />
for assets and current liabilities, and<br />
preparation of financial statements for sole<br />
proprietorship and corporate business forms. It<br />
includes instruction in electronic spreadsheet<br />
applications.<br />

ACC 113 Principles of Financial Accounting II<br />
with Spreadsheets 4 cr.<br />
This course examines partnership and<br />
corporation accounting, preparing and using<br />
financial statements, manufacturing and cost<br />
systems, financial statement analysis,<br />
budgeting and control, and federal income<br />
tax. It includes instruction in electronic<br />
spreadsheet applications.<br />

ACC 115 Managerial Accounting<br />
with Spreadsheets 4 cr.<br />
This course examines the uses of accounting<br />
data in the management process. It includes<br />
cost behavior analysis, job order and process<br />
costing, planning and control, standard<br />
costing, capital budgeting, cash flows and<br />
financial statement analysis. It includes<br />
instruction in electronic spreadsheet applications.<br />

ACC 210 Intermediate Accounting I 3 cr.<br />
This course demonstrates the application of<br />
current accounting principles and procedures<br />
to problems such as financial statement presentation,<br />
balance sheet, profit determination,<br />
depreciation and accounting for current<br />

This course emphasizes investments,<br />
depreciable assets, intangibles, liabilities, leases,<br />
corporate capital, retained earnings, statement<br />
of cash flows, and earnings per share.<br />

ACC 213 Cost Accounting 4 cr.<br />
This course focuses on cost concepts, job<br />
order and process costing, analysis of materials,<br />
labor and factory overhead costs, budgeting,<br />
standard costing, and capital budgeting.<br />

Agriculture Business<br />
AGR 120 Soil <strong>Science</strong> 3 cr.<br />
This course describes the fundamentals of soil<br />
science emphasizing the physical, chemical<br />
and biological properties of soils in relation to<br />
plant growth, environmental problems, and<br />
agricultural applications. Soil classification and<br />
mapping will also be discussed.<br />

AGR 130 Principles of Plant Protection 3 cr.<br />
This course describes the principles of plant<br />
pest control. Topics include the evaluation of<br />
pest problems, environmental considerations,<br />
insects, plant disease agents, integrated pest<br />
management, laws, liability, recordkeeping,<br />
equipment, and disposal.<br />

AGR 140 Agribusiness Management 3 cr.<br />
This course provides an introduction to<br />
agribusiness management principles and skills.<br />
Topics include supply and demand, the role of<br />
agriculture in the economy, economic systems,<br />
and decision making.<br />

AGR 150 Agribusiness Marketing 3 cr.<br />
This course covers basic marketing principles<br />
for agricultural products. Topics include<br />
buying, selling, advertising, processing, standardizing,<br />
grading, storing and marketing of<br />
agricultural commodities and products.<br />
Students will prepare a marketing plan for an<br />
agricultural product or commodity.<br />

AGR 160 Floral Design 3 cr.<br />
This course describes the fundamentals of<br />
commercial floral design theory. Fresh and silk<br />
flower care and handling will be covered as<br />
well as different styles of arrangements.<br />
Operation and management of a retail florist<br />
business will be discussed.<br />
Note: This course can be taken as Adult Ed credit<br />
at BCIT or as a high school CAP course.<br />

AGR 210 Greenhouse Management<br />
& Crop Production 3 cr.<br />
This course describes the production of plants<br />
under transparency. Topics include<br />
greenhouse construction and types;<br />
greenhouse management issues including<br />
heating, cooling and humidity control; and<br />
scheduling and cultural practices for<br />
greenhouse plants.<br />

AGR 220 Nursery Management 3 cr.<br />
This course focuses on establishing and<br />
managing a nursery practice. Topics include<br />
principles, practices, and production of field<br />
grown and container stock; wholesale and<br />
retail nursery business practices; and employee<br />

AGR 230 Vegetable & Crop Production 3 cr.<br />
This course describes the fundamental<br />
principles underlying commercial production<br />
of vegetable and agricultural crops. Topics<br />
include soil management, planting, fertilization,<br />
weed and pest control, harvesting,<br />
post-harvest handling, and marketing.<br />
Specific vegetable and crop characteristics and<br />
growing practices will also be discussed.<br />

American Sign Language<br />
ASL 101 Elementary American<br />
Sign Language I 3 cr.<br />
This course introduces students to American<br />
Sign Language, visual-gestural communication,<br />
and deaf culture. Students begin to<br />
develop receptive and expressive communications<br />
skills with an introduction to American<br />
Sign Language transcription, non-manual<br />
behaviors, topic-comment structure, sentence<br />
types, noun-verb pairs, use of space, pronominalization,<br />
classifiers, and temporal and distributional<br />
aspects. A minimum of five contact<br />
hours in the deaf community is required.<br />
