This course is intensive and highly tutorial,<br />

designed to prepare students for <strong>College</strong><br />

Composition I and to help develop basic<br />

composition skills. It focuses on sentence<br />

recognition, standard mechanics and usage,<br />

and coherent paragraph development<br />

through speaking, listening, reading, and<br />

writing activities.<br />

This course in composition reinforces students’<br />

pre-writing, composing, editing, and proofreading<br />

in paragraphs and longer papers,<br />

primarily illustration/example essays.<br />

This course in composition focuses on reading,<br />

analyzing, and discussing literature. It<br />

emphasizes reading skills, the expression of<br />

required Developmental Reading<br />

ENG 105 Technical Writing 3 cr.<br />

This course focuses on the writing skills<br />

necessary for presenting information of a<br />

technical nature. There is intensive practice<br />

through students writing reports in their own<br />

This course focuses on effective communication<br />

using business vocabulary and its<br />

influence on human relations in business and<br />

industry. It emphasizes instruction and practice<br />

This writing course focuses on the short story<br />

and/or poetry, with occasional evaluation of<br />

the work of other writers. It requires a final<br />

This course examines the use and impact of<br />

language in contemporary American society. It<br />

focuses on the effects of language manipulation<br />

in political, economic, and social areas.<br />

Special attention is given to the connotation<br />

of words, logical fallacies, propaganda, and<br />

doublespeak. It examines the distinction<br />

between responsible, persuasive language and<br />

exploitive language.<br />

intermediate vocabulary development, word<br />

and dictionary usage structural analysis, and<br />

advanced vocabulary development, word and<br />

dictionary usage, structural analysis, and<br />

additional pre-reading and reading strategies<br />
