Health <strong>Science</strong>s<br />

Associate of Applied <strong>Science</strong>, (AAS.HSC)<br />

The Associate of Applied <strong>Science</strong> Degree in Health <strong>Science</strong><br />

is for practicing allied healthcare paraprofessionals who<br />

have graduated from an accredited postsecondary<br />

education program with a certificate and/or diploma and<br />

who are certified or licensed to practice in their chosen<br />

field. This curriculum is designed for healthcare paraprofessionals<br />

who have completed a non-credit postsecondary<br />

healthcare program culminating in a certificate or licensure.<br />

Certification or licensure must be recognized by the<br />

appropriate accrediting agencies. This program offers the<br />

general education component which, when completed and<br />

combined with credit awarded for prior postsecondary<br />

healthcare education, qualifies the student to be awarded<br />

an Associate of Applied <strong>Science</strong> (A.A.S.) Degree in<br />

Health <strong>Science</strong>.<br />

Applicants must meet the general admission criteria of the<br />

<strong>College</strong> and are required to submit the following documentation<br />

for review: A copy of current license and or<br />

certificate, official transcripts and diploma from the<br />

completed training program, and a current resume.<br />

The number of credits awarded for non-credit postsecondary<br />

healthcare education will be determined after a<br />

review of the documentation. A maximum of thirty credits<br />

for certification/licensure will be granted after completion of<br />

the required <strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong> degree requirements<br />

(with grades of “C” or higher) resulting in an A.A.S.<br />

Degree in Health <strong>Science</strong>.<br />

Postsecondary accredited allied health programs<br />

consisting of a minimum of 500 hours will earn<br />

30 college credits. Accredited allied health programs with<br />

no less than 300 and up to 499 hours will earn a minimum<br />

of 22 college credits.<br />

Students receiving less than 30 credits for their postsecondary<br />

work should select additional courses from the<br />

following list to graduate with a minimum of 62 credits.<br />

It is important to note that this curriculum will not confer<br />

eligibility for advanced certification nor advanced licensure<br />

within the healthcare disciplines.<br />

Graduates of this program should be able to:<br />

Practice within the parameters of individual knowledge<br />

and experience;<br />

Practice within the ethical, legal and regulatory<br />

frameworks of professional practice;<br />

Serve as a positive role model within the healthcare<br />

setting and community at large;<br />

Recognize the impact of economic, political, social and<br />

demographic forces on the delivery of healthcare;<br />

Participate in lifelong learning.<br />
