<strong>College</strong> Action<br />

Consistent with law, <strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> reserves the right to dismiss at any<br />

time students who in its judgment are<br />

undesirable and whose continuation in the<br />

school is detrimental to themselves, the staff<br />

and/or their fellow students.<br />

When a student is withdrawn from the<br />

college as a result of administrative action or<br />

for the convenience of the college (except for<br />

disciplinary reasons), he/she is entitled to full<br />

refund of tuition and fees. If the student is<br />

with drawn from a course or courses for<br />

dis ciplinary reasons, he/she is not entitled to<br />

a refund.<br />

Cancellation of Classes<br />

Regularly scheduled classes may be cancelled<br />

due to snow or other condi tions beyond the<br />

control of the college. Such cancellation is<br />

an nounced through local radio stations.<br />

Classes may be cancelled due to lack of or<br />

low enrollment. Affected students are in formed<br />

by telephone and/or in writing by the academic<br />

division offering those classes. Students are<br />

given a choice of selecting other sections<br />

and/or other courses if they so desire or their<br />

tuition and fees are refunded.<br />

Graduation<br />

All students who plan to graduate must apply<br />

for graduation. Graduation is not automatic.<br />

The Registrar’s Office recommends that a student<br />

submit a graduation application during the<br />

semester he/she will have earned the 48th<br />

credit. (The application form is available<br />

online and at the Registrar’s Office.)<br />

Diplomas are ordered at the end of the fall,<br />

spring and summer semesters.<br />

NOTE: A student cannot graduate until<br />

the requirements for “X” and “I” contracts<br />

are fulfilled.<br />

Graduation Application<br />

Deadlines<br />

Students should submit an application for<br />

graduation no later than the listed dates.<br />

No applications for graduation for a specific<br />

semester will be processed after the deadline.<br />

Fall: November 1<br />

Spring: March 1<br />

Summer: June 1<br />

NOTE: To participate in the May commencement<br />

ceremony students need to apply by the<br />

Spring deadline.<br />

Catalog that Applies<br />

to a Student’s Graduation<br />

A candidate for graduation will be evaluated<br />

based on the catalog that is most advantageous<br />

for the student.<br />

Graduation with Honors<br />

Graduation with Honors is official recognition<br />

by the <strong>College</strong> of outstanding academic<br />

achievement by a student during the entire<br />

period of her/his enrollment at the college.<br />

Criteria<br />

1. To be considered for Graduation with<br />

Honors, a student must have earned a<br />

minimum of 30 semester hours at<br />

<strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

2. Only courses that carry <strong>College</strong> credits<br />

will be used in computing grade point<br />

averages (G.P.A.) for graduation.<br />

3. One or more grades of “D” or “F” will<br />

disqualify a student from Graduation with<br />

Honors.<br />

4. Graduation with Honors is available only<br />

to individuals receiving Associate of Applied<br />

<strong>Science</strong>, Associate of <strong>Science</strong>, Associate of<br />

Arts, or Associate of Fine Arts degrees.<br />

5. More than one semester with one or more<br />

grades of “X” will disqualify a student<br />

from graduation with honors.<br />

6. Requests for exceptions due to circumstances<br />

of an extraordinary nature may<br />

be submitted to the Vice President of<br />

Academic Programs.<br />

Types of Honors<br />

Cum Laude (Honors)<br />

Required Cumulative Grade Point Average<br />

(G.P.A.): 3.50 – 3.74<br />

Magna Cum Laude (High Honors)<br />

Required Cumulative Grade Point Average<br />

(G.P.A.): 3.75 – 3.89<br />

Summa Cum Laude (Highest Honors)<br />

Required Cumulative Grade Point Average<br />

(G.P.A.): 3.90 and above.<br />

Participation in<br />

Commencement Ceremony<br />

Any student meeting the degree requirements<br />

listed on pages 38 is eligible to participate in<br />

the commencement ceremony, which is held<br />

in May each year. Diplomas are mailed to<br />

the graduates at the end of the semester<br />

following certification of their degree.<br />

Multiple Degrees<br />

Students pursuing more than one degree<br />

from <strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong> Col lege must meet<br />

the following criteria:<br />

1. satisfy the General Education Re quire ments<br />

for each degree,<br />

2. satisfy the program require ments for each<br />

ma jor, and<br />

3. earn at least 15 additional credits for each<br />

additional degree.<br />

Students pursuing multiple degrees should<br />

meet with a college academic advisor/<br />

counselor to prepare a program. This should<br />

be done prior to the completion of 32<br />

credits.<br />

Final Grades<br />

Grades are issued at the end of each semester/<br />

term. An unofficial transcript showing degree<br />

completion will be mailed to the student<br />

upon fulfillment of all program requirements<br />

for graduation.<br />

Final grades for all <strong>Burlington</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> courses will be provided electronically<br />

at www.bcc.edu under the listing for<br />

WebAdvisor.<br />

Transfer of Academic<br />

Record (Transcript)<br />

In accordance with the Family Educa tional<br />

Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, <strong>Burlington</strong><br />

<strong>County</strong> <strong>College</strong> is not permit ted to release a<br />

student’s academic record without the<br />

student’s written permission.<br />

An official transcript bearing the college<br />

seal and the signature of the Registrar will be<br />

sent directly to another educa tional institution<br />

or employer upon receipt of a written request<br />

from the student. Requests should be submitted<br />

to the Registration Office. Allow at least one<br />

week for processing. Transcripts of students<br />

who owe money to the college will not be<br />

sent until the balance is paid.<br />

To protect the security of student records,<br />

any transcript which will be handled by<br />

a student bears the notation “Issued to<br />

Student”. Most institutions will not accept<br />

as of ficial a transcript bearing this notation.<br />

Transcript Errors<br />

Errors on transcripts regarding grades must be<br />

brought to the Registrar’s attention within one<br />

year of the occurrence of the error. No changes<br />

to the transcript will be made after one year.<br />

Under extraordinary circumstances, appeals<br />

can be made to the Vice President of<br />

Academic Programs.<br />

Certification/Verification<br />

All certifications/verifications of enrollments<br />

and academic status are proc essed by the<br />

Registrar’s Office. These verifications will<br />

normally be done after the end of the<br />

add period.<br />

Veterans certifications are processed by<br />

the Financial Aid Office. Please allow five<br />

days for processing.<br />
