CHAPTER 5:MONSTERSA primal air whirlwind is 10 feet wide at the base,40 feet wide at the top, and up to 80 feet tall. The elementalcontrols its exact height, but it must be at least10 feet.Gargantuan or smaller creatures might take damagewhen caught in the whirlwind and may be lifted intothe air. An affected creature must succeed at a Reflexsave (DC 67) when it comes intocontact with the whirlwind or take4d8 points of damage. It mustalso succeed at a second Reflexsave (DC 67) or be picked upbodily and held suspendedin the powerfulwinds, automaticallytaking 4d8points of damageeach round. Acreature that canfly is allowed aReflex save (DC67) each roundto escape thewhirlwind. Thecreature stilltakes damagebut can leaveif the save issuccessful.The elementalcaneject any carriedcreatureswheneverit wishes,depositingthem whereverthe whirlwind happens to be. Asummoned elemental always ejects trapped creaturesbefore returning to its home plane.If the whirlwind’s base touches the ground, it createsa swirling cloud of debris. This cloud is centered on theelemental and has a diameter equal to half the whirlwind’sheight. The cloud obscures all vision, includingdarkvision, beyond 5 feet. Creatures 5 feet away haveone-half concealment, while those farther away havetotal concealment (see Chapter 8 of the Player’s <strong>Handbook</strong>).Those caught in the cloud must succeed at a Concentrationcheck (DC 67) to cast a spell.PRIMAL EARTH ELEMENTALPrimal earth elementals are as strong as the bones ofthe earth.A primal earth elemental looks like a colossal stonyhumanoid. When summoned to the Material Plane(by a custom-crafted epic spell), it is made of whatevertypes of dirt, stones, precious metals, andgems it was conjured from. The elemental always has acold, expressionless face with a mouthlike opening, andtwo eyes that sparkle like multifaceted gems. A primalearth elemental stands at least 70 feet tall and weighs in at250,000 pounds or more.Earth elementals speak Terran in a voice that soundlike the rumbling of an earthquake.CombatPrimal earth elementals enjoy battering objects (andfoes) to dust.Earth Mastery (Ex): An earth elemental gains a –1attack and damage bonus if both it and its foe touchthe ground. If an opponent is airborne or waterborne, the elemental takes a –4 penalty on attackand damage rolls. (These modifiers are not includedin the statistics block.)Push (Ex): An earth elemental can start a bullrush maneuver without provoking an attack ofopportunity. The combat modifiers given forearth mastery, above, also apply to the elementalsopposed Strength checks.PRIMAL FIRE ELEMENTALPrimal fire elementals are fast and agile, theembodiment of flame’s fury.A primal fire elemental looks like acolossal sheet of flame with an armlikeappendage on each side.
