CHAPTER 1:CHARACTERS,SKILLS & FEATSDiscern Partial Alignment: This use of the skill lets youdiscern one component of a target's alignment. Whenmaking the check, you state whether you are trying todiscern the law-chaos or good-evil component. You can'tretry the check, and you can't use this to discern morethan one component of the alignment (but see below).The target must be visible and within 30 feet of you.Discern Full Alignment: This use of the skill lets youdetermine both components of a target's alignment.You can't retry the check. The target must be visible andwithin 30 feet of you.Detect Surface Thoughts: This lets you read the surfacethoughts of a single target (as the 3rd-round effect of thedetect thoughts spell). There is no saving throw to resist thiseffect, though the target can use Bluff to disguise his surfacethoughts (see the Bluff skill description), in whichcase this becomes an opposed check (any result lowerthan 100 automatically fails). The target must be visibleand within 30 feet of you.SpellcraftYou can identify properties of a magic item.DCTask50 + caster level Identify basic property of magic item70 + caster level Identify all properties of magic itemIdentify Basic Property of Magic item: This use of the skillrequires one round of inspection, and functionsexactly as if you had cast an identify spell on theitem. You can't attempt this on the same itemmore than once.Identify All Properties of Magic Item: Thisrequires one minute of inspection, andreveals all properties of a single magicitem (including command wordsand charges remaining). You can'tattempt this on the same itemmore than once. If you beat the DCby 20 or more, you can pinpoint the location of the invisiblecreature, though it still maintains total concealmentfrom you (50% miss chance).Defeat Illusion: You can automatically detect any illusionwith a visual component for what it truly is. No Will saveis required, and you don't have to interact with the illusion(but you must be able to see it).SwimYou can swim up vertical surfaces, or swim much fasterthan normal.DC Task80 Swim up waterfallSwim up Waterfall: This use of the skill allows you toswim an angled or vertical surface, as long as youremain completely or mostly immersed in water. Otherexamples might include swimming up a whirlpool oran incredibly large wave.Circumstance DC ModifierSpeed swimming –20Speed Swimming: By taking a –20penalty on the check, you can swimyour speed as a move-equivalentaction, or double your speed as a fullroundaction.TumbleYou can fall from great heights withouttaking damage, move greater distanceswith an adjustment, or “climb” verticalsurfaces with a series of bounces.DC Task30 Treat a fall as if it were 20 feetshorter when determining damage35 Free stand.45 Treat a fall as if it were 30 feetshorter when determining damage50 Climb vertical surface.60 Treat a fall as if it were 40 feetshorter when determining damage.100 Ignore falling damage.Free Stand: You can stand up fromprone as a free action (instead of as amove-equivalent action).Climb Vertical Surface: You can climbup to 20 feet (as part of normal movement)by jumping and bouncing oftwalls, trees, or similar vertical surfaces.You must have at least two verticalsurfaces to bounce off, and the twomust be within 10 feet of each other.Ignore Falling Damage: You can fallfrom any height and take no damage.Special: A character with 25 ormore ranks in Tumble gains a +544
