Do not get misled on account <strong>of</strong> my apparent1y eccentric habits up to now. For example,I have definitely decided to give up <strong>Meher</strong>azad in October, yet I have given instructions toPadri to fix the lighting as ear1y as he c<strong>an</strong>. That is because <strong>of</strong> my custom <strong>of</strong> maintaining <strong>an</strong>old order <strong>of</strong> things up to the moment that I start upon <strong>an</strong>ything new. It may be madness, itmay be method, but that has been my habit. Now I am also going to put <strong>an</strong> end to my habits<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> customs. <strong>The</strong>refore when I say the 'end' it will me<strong>an</strong> nothing but <strong>an</strong> end. Do not remain<strong>an</strong>y more under the impression that it will be otherwise. I w<strong>an</strong>t to be absolutely free fromeverything <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> everybody. <strong>The</strong>re will be no compromise now about <strong>an</strong>ything. I am becomingghutt hardened), naffat callous) <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> penniless. Remember the proverb N<strong>an</strong>ga-se-Khuda bhidarta hai (even God is afraid <strong>of</strong> the 'naked').A deadline <strong>of</strong> 15 October was fixed for the disposal <strong>of</strong> everything <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> for the completion<strong>of</strong> all arr<strong>an</strong>gements. <strong>The</strong>se inc1uded the c<strong>an</strong>cellation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Baba</strong>'s last will made in favour <strong>of</strong> them<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>ali in 1940, as well as the c<strong>an</strong>cellation <strong>of</strong> the wills in favour <strong>of</strong> <strong>Baba</strong> by the menm<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>ali members. <strong>The</strong>se were tom up one by one by <strong>Baba</strong> <strong>with</strong> his own h<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>s in the presence<strong>of</strong> the respective execut<strong>an</strong>ts, each <strong>of</strong> whom was given back the tom pieces to bekept as souvenirs. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Meher</strong> Publications as a firm was also dissolved <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> all copyrightswere dec1ared to remain <strong>with</strong> the respective authors.Sarosh, <strong>Meher</strong>jee <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Narim<strong>an</strong>, foremost amongst those who have rendered invaluableservice to <strong>Baba</strong>, appeared to be the most concerned over these decisions. Sarosh was the firstto <strong>of</strong>fer to undertake the sole responsibility <strong>of</strong> maintaining indefinitely all the men <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> womenm<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>ali now staying <strong>with</strong> <strong>Baba</strong>. <strong>Baba</strong> smiled, showing he was very happy to hear this, buttold Sarosh 'You have missed the whole point. C<strong>an</strong>'t you see that the expected proceeds <strong>of</strong> allmy properties have been earmarked for those not going <strong>with</strong> me? <strong>The</strong> question <strong>of</strong> themainten<strong>an</strong>ce <strong>of</strong> those who will remain <strong>with</strong> me after 15 October is neither provided for nor isto be provided for. I <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> those who are going <strong>with</strong> me are going to suffer. We are going tostart <strong>with</strong>out <strong>an</strong>y protection. We shall have to go a-begging.'<strong>Meher</strong>jee <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Narim<strong>an</strong> accepted the responsibility <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Meher</strong>abad <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> <strong>Meher</strong>azadashrams, l<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong>s, buildings, etc. This was sheer sacrifice on their part, because when <strong>Baba</strong>advised them not to hesitate to re-sell the properties when they received good <strong>of</strong>fers, Narim<strong>an</strong>said
