<strong>THE</strong> UNIVERSAL MESSAGE 355Fr<strong>an</strong>cis added to his letter these lines:We sit <strong>with</strong> God through the days while he waits;waits the talk <strong>of</strong> the little men, the Prime Ministers <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> the Presidents;waits so patiently their insults to each other <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> theirstrutting, each justifying the war he will soon begin -the little men <strong>with</strong>out honour, <strong>with</strong>out love.How patiently God waits! Yet it is not surprising,since the little men are not men at allbut puppets that d<strong>an</strong>ce <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> wave their arms <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> mouth the wordswhile he the Puppeteer <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> Ventriloquist pulls the strings <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> speaks.This was at the time <strong>of</strong> the abortive 'Summit Conference' in Paris.Return was made to <strong>Meher</strong>azad by the end <strong>of</strong> the month when again 150 very poor people, mostly lepers,were received in Ahmednagar, their feet being washed by <strong>Baba</strong>, then touched <strong>with</strong> his forehead, <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> a gift<strong>of</strong> money <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> cloth given to each. This took more th<strong>an</strong> two hours <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> was exhausting. On 30 June thefollowing message was given:This is to all <strong>of</strong> you who love me <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> obey me, as well as to all those who would do so.Most particularly, it is to all <strong>of</strong> you who have replied in the affirmative stating your resolution to obey me<strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> hold fast to my daam<strong>an</strong> under all circumst<strong>an</strong>ces, <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> irrespective <strong>of</strong> whatever mayor may not happen,to stick to me to the very end.I w<strong>an</strong>t you all my lovers to take this period <strong>of</strong> my seclusion as most import<strong>an</strong>t from all <strong>an</strong>gles.I w<strong>an</strong>t you to help me by helping one <strong>an</strong>other through practising greater toler<strong>an</strong>ce towards all, eventowards those who cause you provocation. I w<strong>an</strong>t you to do this through love <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> not through compulsion.I w<strong>an</strong>t you to live in accord <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> to maintain cordial relations <strong>with</strong> all especially during these six months<strong>of</strong> my seclusion which will test to the utmost your forbear<strong>an</strong>ce, thus making you aware <strong>of</strong> the extent <strong>of</strong>your love for me.I w<strong>an</strong>t you to know that I will definitely break my silence; <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> I w<strong>an</strong>t you to cling to my daam<strong>an</strong> till thevery end, irrespective <strong>of</strong> whether I speak or not. I am the Highest <strong>of</strong> the High, <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> w<strong>an</strong>t you to love me notfor <strong>an</strong>y spiritual or material gain, nor for the impending breaking <strong>of</strong> my silence <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> my m<strong>an</strong>ifestation, butI w<strong>an</strong>t you to love me for myself, as being God in hum<strong>an</strong> form.
