• To liaise closely with donors and all relevant stakeholders, specifically the Bank <strong>of</strong><br />

Tanzania will advise the m<strong>in</strong>istry <strong>of</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ance on the technical aspects <strong>of</strong> such government<br />

programs <strong>in</strong> Micr<strong>of</strong><strong>in</strong>ance.<br />

• To keep the public <strong>in</strong>formed <strong>of</strong> key developments and pert<strong>in</strong>ent issues <strong>in</strong> the sector and<br />

to provide an important l<strong>in</strong>k to what is happen<strong>in</strong>g elsewhere <strong>in</strong> the field at regional<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternational levels.<br />

• Coord<strong>in</strong>ate Government <strong>in</strong>tervention and <strong>in</strong>terface with other stakeholders <strong>in</strong> the<br />

field.<br />

• Guide the development <strong>of</strong> the sector.<br />

2.2.10: <strong>The</strong> <strong>role</strong> played by <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> by women participation <strong>in</strong><br />

Tanzania.<br />

Participation <strong>of</strong> by women <strong>in</strong> SACCOs with regard to their membership, percentage <strong>of</strong> loans<br />

obta<strong>in</strong>ed and their participation <strong>in</strong> decision – mak<strong>in</strong>g bodies, <strong>in</strong> not as high as their<br />

representation <strong>in</strong> the general population, although for the past few years there has been a<br />

marked <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> their participation <strong>in</strong> the activities <strong>of</strong> sav<strong>in</strong>gs and credit cooperative society.<br />

SACCOs, however, have every <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> promot<strong>in</strong>g the access <strong>of</strong> by women to f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />

services.<br />

Efforts are currently put <strong>in</strong> encourag<strong>in</strong>g more women to jo<strong>in</strong> SACCOs <strong>in</strong> Tanzania. As <strong>of</strong> 30 th<br />

May 2005, 85,456 women were members <strong>of</strong> the SACCOs family <strong>in</strong> the country account<strong>in</strong>g for<br />

33.3% <strong>of</strong> the membership out <strong>of</strong> 254,651 total members.<br />
