2.2.10.1: Advantages for the SACCOs by <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g participation <strong>of</strong> by<br />

women <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g participation by women <strong>in</strong> the SACCOs is very advantageous<br />

for the cooperative both socially and economically.<br />

� Because women account for over 50% <strong>of</strong> the population and a high percentage <strong>of</strong> the<br />

active population.<br />

� Women are good ambassadors for the SACCOs first <strong>of</strong> all with their children, but also<br />

because they are <strong>of</strong>ten<br />

� Members <strong>of</strong> numerous groups that they <strong>in</strong>fluence positively.<br />

� Women are generally loyal to their SACCOs, they are harder to attract but rarely leave.<br />

� Women are generally considered to be good members; they are concerned with sett<strong>in</strong>g<br />

money aside for hard times and normally do well <strong>in</strong> repay<strong>in</strong>g their loans.<br />

� Because the impact on the family situation and development is generally greater if one<br />

does bus<strong>in</strong>ess with women.<br />

Note: In summary, it can be said that <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g participation <strong>of</strong> by women is a good bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

strategy for a SACCOs because it enable it to atta<strong>in</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>itability more quickly and ensure its<br />

growth.<br />

2.2.10.2: Ma<strong>in</strong> constra<strong>in</strong>ts on women’s access to f<strong>in</strong>ancial services:<br />

However, to <strong>in</strong>crease participation by women <strong>in</strong> their <strong><strong>in</strong>stitutions</strong>, SACCOs should put <strong>in</strong> place<br />

a special strategy to attract more women (develop<strong>in</strong>g new products, Offer adapted terms,<br />

provide specific education etc.), which first <strong>of</strong> all, requires an understand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> the constra<strong>in</strong>ts<br />

that currently prevent women from obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g access to f<strong>in</strong>ancial services.<br />
