Two Basic concepts <strong>in</strong> the context <strong>of</strong> test<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> hypothesis are null hypothesis and<br />

alternative hypothesis.<br />

<strong>The</strong> null hypothesis is the one which wishes to reject and is denoted as Ho and must be<br />

specified.<br />

<strong>The</strong> alternative hypothesis is the one which wishes to accept someth<strong>in</strong>g and is denoted<br />

as Hi and represents all the possibilities.<br />

<strong>The</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g hypothesis were tested for the adequacy <strong>of</strong> SACCOs <strong>in</strong> effective<br />

communication between cooperative organizations and their members, competitors,<br />

customers, facilitators, suppliers.<br />

Stat<strong>in</strong>g the hypothesis.<br />

Ho: <strong>The</strong>re is no significant difference between those people enjoy<strong>in</strong>g SACCO’s benefits and<br />

those do not have a chance <strong>of</strong> reduc<strong>in</strong>g poverty.<br />

Hi: Those people enjoy<strong>in</strong>g the benefits <strong>of</strong> SACCOs have the greater chance <strong>of</strong> reduc<strong>in</strong>g<br />

poverty.<br />

Significance and contribution <strong>of</strong> the study<br />

<strong>The</strong> rationale <strong>of</strong> undertak<strong>in</strong>g the study is based on the fact that no such study has been<br />

conducted/ undertaken and documented for practical use <strong>in</strong> Tanzania for contribut<strong>in</strong>g towards<br />

the fulfillment <strong>of</strong> the PhD degree <strong>in</strong> SACCO’s management requirements by the St. Clements<br />

University. Successful completion <strong>of</strong> this study will give additional knowledge and skills <strong>in</strong> the<br />

formulation <strong>of</strong> methods to be used <strong>in</strong> mak<strong>in</strong>g the SACCOs performance more attributable <strong>in</strong><br />

disadvantaged areas not only <strong>in</strong> Tanzania but also <strong>in</strong> other third world countries especially<br />

those <strong>of</strong> sub-Sahara Africa.<br />
