Efficiency and Effectiveness Analysis<br />

Effectiveness and efficiency are important criteria for <strong><strong>in</strong>stitutions</strong> performance. Effectiveness<br />

measures the magnitude and the scale <strong>of</strong> <strong><strong>in</strong>stitutions</strong> performance. On the other hand,<br />

efficiency measures quality productivity and returns on assets and resources. Below is the table<br />

summariz<strong>in</strong>g important measures <strong>of</strong> <strong><strong>in</strong>stitutions</strong> effectiveness and efficiency?<br />

Table 16 has been adapted and modified based on Oketch et al (1997) statistical f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>of</strong><br />

surveyed and analyzed micro f<strong>in</strong>ancial <strong><strong>in</strong>stitutions</strong> <strong>in</strong> the period cover<strong>in</strong>g 1994-1996.<br />

Table 16 suggests that on average <strong>in</strong> the period 1994-1996 deposit mobilization <strong>in</strong>creased by<br />

145.1%. In the year 1995-1996 the change <strong>in</strong> deposit mobilization was higher by 40.64%. This<br />

<strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> deposit mobilization suggests the <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> the effectiveness <strong>of</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />

mobilization.<br />
