the <strong>in</strong>troduction <strong>of</strong> computer systems the tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> management <strong>in</strong> the f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />

techniques used <strong>in</strong> the networked bank<strong>in</strong>g sector, and the <strong>in</strong>troduction <strong>of</strong> management<br />

to credit analysis and credit management techniques.<br />

� <strong>The</strong> extension <strong>of</strong> the movement to rural areas n Tanzania beyond the areas <strong>of</strong><br />

concentration and to members other than c<strong>of</strong>fee farmers.<br />

Recommendations<br />

Although sem<strong>in</strong>ars and workshops have been organized to facilitate exchange <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

among East Africa countries, these activities have not had significant impact probably because<br />

these <strong><strong>in</strong>stitutions</strong> do not share the same pre occupations and operat<strong>in</strong>g pr<strong>in</strong>ciples.<br />

Needs several exchanges <strong>of</strong> experience and cooperat<strong>in</strong>g aimed <strong>in</strong> promot<strong>in</strong>g reflection on the<br />

<strong>in</strong>novations developed <strong>in</strong> other countries, outl<strong>in</strong>e the East Africa cooperation Banks to assess<br />

the complementarity’s and the relationship between these banks and the SACCOs, between<br />

SACCOs and f<strong>in</strong>ancial NGOs <strong>in</strong> East Africa to compare the unique aspects <strong>of</strong> each system and<br />

the pr<strong>of</strong>iles <strong>of</strong> the clients they get<br />

1. ROSCA – Rotat<strong>in</strong>g Sav<strong>in</strong>g and Credit Associations – these are groups save their own money<br />

and then lend it out to each member <strong>of</strong> the group <strong>in</strong> succession.<br />
