In breaking a flanged joint, leave twodiametrically opposite securing nuts in placewhile loosening the others. Then slack <strong>of</strong>f onthe last two nuts. When you are sure beyondthe slightest doubt that the line is clear, removethe nuts and break the joint.4. Take all appropriate precautions to preventfire and explosion when cutting into linesor breaking joints in systems that have containedflammable fluids.5. Observe all safety precautions requiredin connection with welding, brazing, or otherprocesses used in repairing the piping.6. Before repaired piping is put back intoservice, various tests and inspections may berequired. Specific requirements for tests andinspections may be given along with instructionsfor the repair job; or you may find test andinspection requirements indicated on the plansor blueprints. If specific instructions are notgiven, consult chapter 9480 <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Naval</strong> <strong>Ships</strong>Technical Manual.390
