OBA tenders are in charge <strong>of</strong> tendinglines, when used, and keeping spare canistersreadily available. The OBA men assist in makingthe investigation in situations where oxygenbreathing apparatus is necessary for entry.The OBA men also work with hoses and performother duties in spaces containing toxicgases.The closure detail secures all doors, hatches,and openings around the fire area to isolatethe fire area. This group secures all ventilationclosures and fans in the area <strong>of</strong> smoke andheat, establishes secondary fire boundaries bycooling down nearby areas, and assists infightingthe fire as necessary.Hospital Corpsmen render first aid to theinjured. The JZ talker establishes and maintainscommunications with damage control central,either directly or through the local repairparty.Since no two fires are exactly alike, thedeployment <strong>of</strong> men and equipment is not alwaysthe same. In most situations, however, the followinggeneral rules are observed:1. The attacking party, which is the firstline <strong>of</strong> defense, must have a sufficient number<strong>of</strong> men. The attacking party makes the initialinvestigation and moves in to contain the fire.2. The supporting party should not have anymore men than are actually required to bringup auxiliary equipment, assist with foam and67
