Interagency Integrated SOPUNCLASSIFIED20.5. DestructionMaterial will be identified for emergency destruction/removal according to the followingpriority:20.5.1. Priority OneAll cryptographic equipment <strong>and</strong> documents.20.5.2. Priority TwoAll operational SCI codeword material that might divulge targets <strong>and</strong> successes,documents dealing with U.S. SCI activities, <strong>and</strong> documents concerning compartmentedprojects <strong>and</strong> other sensitive intelligence materials <strong>and</strong> TOP SECRET collateral.20.5.3. Priority ThreeLess sensitive administrative SCI material <strong>and</strong> collateral classified material not includedabove.20.5.4.Selection of an adequate destruction method should be based on a comprehensiveevaluation of conditions at a specific SCIF. Destruction of SCI equipment should be byone of the following means.• Acetylene torches.• Incendiaries.• Although not as effective, destruction or disassembling, smashing, or scatteringcomponents may be accomplished when incendiaries or acetylene torches are notavailable. Equipment also may be jettisoned into water deep enough to minimizethe possibility of salvage.• Documents <strong>and</strong> other flammable material may be destroyed by burning. Kerosene,gasoline, <strong>and</strong> sodium nitrate are effective means of destroying documents. Theyshould be used with extreme care for personal safety. Documents also may bedestroyed by:• Pulverizing.• Pulping.• Enclosing in a weighted, perforated bag, <strong>and</strong> jettisoning into water deepenough to minimize the possibility of recovery.141Version 8.3Interim Approval April 28, 2006
