leader. These are echoes of old legends about the heavenly deer which had been present
in shaman myths of other peoples. Legends contain various descriptions of this mythical
creature, where different parts of its body are likened to body parts of certain animals.
However, all this is just characteristics indicating the four major Aspects structure in
which the centre is enclosed. Thus, there are records that this creature has a wolf’s neck,
a bull’s tail and horse hooves. A wolf is a traditional designation of the Left aspect, a
bull – of the Right aspect. A horse in mythological representations was often associated
with movement in time and beyond time, with movement through dimensions and
worlds, with a creature carrying a divine rider or a cultural hero. “Horse hooves”
symbolically indicated not only the Rear aspects’ functions, but also the lateral Aspects
(the Animal nature) which, subject to appropriate supervision and switching over to
another operational mode, played a role of active assistants connecting with other
dimensions and worlds. It was considered that Qilin’ was a combination of Yin and
Yang forces (Qi — the male principle, Lin’ — the female principle). Taoist legends
mention that white unicorns are ridden by the immortal. All this is a figurative
comparison of the Knowledge which was camouflaged in myths, particularly the
Knowledge of the invisible human structure, of its spiritual constituent, of real abilities
in the invisible world learning.
Furthermore, the secret symbol of the Front aspect in Ancient China was Chi-dee, the
sovereign of the south, whose personification was Chu-nyao (Chuzyao) meaning “the
red bird”. It was compared to a miraculous Chinese king-bird Fenhuan named Phoenix
bird in the West. This wonder-bird was an embodiment of the female principle, in
contrast to the dragon. The bird was regarded as an envoy of the heavenly sovereign,
personified the wind deity, was associated with the solar (sun) symbol of nature and
considered an embodiment of philanthropy. According to legends, it lives in “the
Eastern kingdom of perfect people”. Its appearance was a sign of approaching and
prosperity. Stories say the immortal fly on this bird. But again, knowing the Front
aspect’s characteristics and its interrelationship with the invisible world, it’s easy to
understand why the myth on this symbol was described from this very viewpoint.
The secret symbol of the Rear aspect was Hey-dee, the sovereign of the north (“the
black sovereign”), i.e. a spirit named Se-guan-chi meaning “recording harmony and
light”. Now, please, recall the Rear aspect’s functions: it is the information keeper
