Rigden: Well, it is worth it. Let us start with the interpretation of the ancient Slavic
word "sacrifice," which, though comically by ear, but reflects the essence. I have once
said that the word "sacrifice", that appeared in Russian language in the XI century in
connection with the spread of Christianity religion, comes from the verbal formation –
ancient Slavic word “жьрѫ” (“gorge”, “making the sacrifice”). And “gorge” (“жьрѫ”)
in turn, before the Slavs used to in mean "to eat" (ancient Slavonic verb, origin from
Indo-European), that is "gulp back". By the way, "gulp back" was related to the ancient
Russian word "belly", which in ancient times meant "life." From it and occurred ancient
Slavic word "animal" - literally meaning "something that lives." In addition, the word
"animal" has become widespread in the Kiev Russia precisely in XI-XII centuries,
thanks to the sacred renewal of the primordial spiritual Teaching (including the teaching
about four Aspects) given by St Agapit Pecherskiy.
Anastasia: Turns out, old slavic temples, especially those, on which have been put
special signs and symbols, were not "altars" as such. Perhaps, in some cases it was a
