expounded, the semi-divine siddhi possess the following preternatural features. They can
become extremely light or heavy, infinitely small or large; they can immediately move
to any point in space, achieve what they desire by means of the power of their thought,
bend “to their will” objects and time, or gain the supreme power over the world. Yet,
mythology is only the camouflaged sacral knowledge of the human and the world.
Anastasia: So, basically, these are all echoes of the former knowledge of how humans
were mastering special techniques to control their four Aspects.
Rigden: Absolutely. Moreover, these echoes are already the outcome of thorough
revisions made by various religions. In actual fact, all these supernatural “magic
powers” in spiritual practices are, say, a side effect when a person is learning to control
his or her Right and Left aspects. Namely these Aspects work in, say, a certain
consciousness regime causes manifestation of such super abilities in a person. In
Buddhist treatises there are records that possession of such powers (“siddhi”) as such is
not harmful, while everything is based upon a person’s choice or wish. The treatises also
state that Buddha himself warned monks against succumbing to various temptations in
the process of “unconditioning themselves”. First of all, they were warned to avoid
demonstrating these “magic powers” to people who were not familiar with such matters,
so as not to cause tumult of un-believers’ minds. Secondly and mainly, monks were said
to beware of the temptation to change their initial goal, i.e. withdrawal to Nirvana (to the
Eternity), for empty human wishes: desire of power, of “magic capture of the world”, of
satisfaction of any materials desires and needs, as well as longing for control and
possession of anything, opportunities to use these invisible powers for egoistic purposes
and to direct events into channels beneficial for themselves personally. In other words,
Buddha warned those who followed the spiritual path against any kind of such “magic
powers” utilization for mercenary ends. Otherwise, a person would stray from the road,
and would not accomplish the main thing in his life – the internal transformation, the
joining with the Absolute, with the world of the Soul.
Why was Buddha focusing people’s attention on this point? Buddha had a group of
disciples who were mastering “the High Art” as they called it, or Geliarship as we say.
And this is a very difficult way of spiritual development which is hardly destined for all.
Figuratively speaking, this is like a secret service: not everyone is hired there, but only
